Any use for flares with non-throwing characters?

If you are not a throwing character, should you just sell all flares?

If you or any of your NPCs hold a flare, you are just making it easier for enemies to hit you.

The ONLY use I could think of was to place lit flares down on the ground near non-hostile enemies at night before you attack it. (like attacking the Slavers Guild in the Den)

Are there any of other uses I'm not thinking of?

Lit flares (Thrown at/ or on the ground) change the light level around those standing near them.

*As you mentioned above, but not for offensive purpose.

In Fo Nevada flares are used for BIG BOOM BOMBS as you probably know. I love those haha
