Some examples would be bioware and obsidian (specifically Pillars 2), the continued focus on these shitty fanfic tier side stories where you fuck or get fucked by some fucking weirdo (most companions I find are annoyingly quirky and annoying) and as Josh Sawyer mentioned usually just end after you bang.

They're never deep enough to serve as further exploration of a character and just come off as fan service. Romance is rarely written well today and usually the patterns are "let's bang, okay" or "We are both hurt inside, we can heal each other". They are formulaic and are really cookie cutter and mundane.

A prime example is bioware's last few games like all of mass effect and even dragon age. Miranda, Liara, Morriagan, Leliana, etc. they are all treated as normal characters who you can occasionally flirt with then fuck after you say the right things. But after that it's just the greeting of "My, Love" and maybe a little pre-ending fuck sesh which have sad music in the background.

They never really explore more about the character or your romance with them aside from an off hand comment in the sequel. But they also bring in the weirdos. Now maybe I'm just some puritanical gate keeping asshole but I think the waifu shipping, and fixation on shit like "lol RIDE THE BULL XD" is weird.

I believe that it erodes the community similar to the coomer shit Bethesda mods bring in (Female menstruation and anal torches are a little bizarre). Now I think the common gameplay discussion, build guides, suggestions, the odd fan-fic, and the autistic lore discussions are all well and good.

But When you're like tesg and Fog threads on /vg/where half the thread is waifu shit (/tg/ threads are fine usually) or any bioware forum that end up being a combination of waifu shit and sharing THEIR characters art and super dramatic story are gay. But maybe I'm just some asshole.
