I think it stems the frustration I am feeling (I really wish for death), and sort of sense of nostalgia, or the wish for any Fallout game not made by Bethesda.

I don't have the idea that if FOBOS1 (and 2) had been done slightly different that they would have been "good" games, but I think some fixing could have made them "acceptable".
Acceptable as in something that can be enjoyable when one wants to play something quick and mindless.

Recently when I played Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance 1 and 2 which definitely are better than FOBOS I also found out that they are mostly made to cash in on the BG title, perhaps giving console gamers the idea at the time that these were like the PC RPGs.
