I don't think adults can have an opinion about children shows, just like children can't have an opinion about adults shows. It's not for their audience.
I know. I also watch cartoons in the morning, but I don't complain if something is bad, because someone older than me probably complained about the things I love.
i get it. i look back on spongebob and cringe. even as a kid i though fanboy and chum chum was terrible. yet courage the cowardly dog and samurai jack and ed edd n eddy all still hold up. that's what good cartoons do. hold up as an adult. i don't forsee many of these modern cartoons managing that.

The creators of those shows and good modern cartoons acknowledge that they have a bigger teen audience, and evaluating the fandom (and just viewers anyway) normally just shows that the audience is more spreaded over all ages. You don't have Godzilla/Kaiju references in Gumball if you are aiming at little kids.
exactly like i said just because something must appeal to children doesn't mean it must appeal only to children.

Pixar kinda invented this; the cartoon is good enough for everyone to enjoy. Kids will laugh at goofy stuff while the adults grasp better references and parodies and get the meaning if any.
In UP the kids laughed at dogs in fighters while adults admired the particular style and an elder man's lonely life.
Wall-E is as close as it got to a Fallout movie, heh
Hope they don't go Minions and keep it up.
