    Senegal and North Korea?

Unlike the India fanboy up there, I hope most here realize the rampant poverty and social inequalities in India (cast system anyone?) that absolutely need to take precedence over bragging projects like a space program, or a huge copper statue that will fall apart in a decade. Yeah. Most...

    Senegal and North Korea?

No, it's not. That's like calling people racists because they say Africa is poor. Which it is. They're not "retards" like you understand the term, they're retards from a Western educational point of view. That is, using IQ tests. It's no surprise either, considering many of them haven't been...

Plato's allegory of the cave realised in horrible fashion.

They'd probably kill him if they got access to food, and 30% of the population wasn't in the armed forces, and they weren't indoctrinated to believe that the outside world was a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

    Senegal and North Korea?

It's not a race thing. It's a consequence of the complete lack of education for a large portion of the populace. If they lived in the pre-industrial societies they had before colonization, it wouldn't be a problem. But when futilely attempting to start a space program when they don't even have...

    Senegal and North Korea?

If they spent half that money on food and education, maybe they would get places. And yes, with an average IQ around 70-80 (depending on the country), Africa is retarded. Translation: "This is a small step we just took, but it's a big leap for scientific research in Congo"

Large Hadron Collider and the Potential for Cataclysm

Hmm, I actually have a decent chance of getting into a study exchange program in Switzerland. If there's a decent scientific region, I might stick around.

Large Hadron Collider and the Potential for Cataclysm

I read in an article that the energy is 7 TeV, and after two years they're going to take a one year break for repairs, then push the 14 TeV barrier in 2013.

    best post- apoc movie

Myeah, I guess that one and the Dawn of the Dead remake. Along with 28 days later. 28 weeks later was ok. I also enjoyed Zombieland. I meant 90% of the yearly zombie/disease movies. *edit* Well, watched Carriers. Not really what I expected. Kind of a mix between a teen movie version...

    best post- apoc movie

Hey, I've already forgotten the trailer to Shutter Island, so I look forward to seeing it. Still watching Carriers tonight. I expect it to be mediocre, just like every other zombie movie out there.

    best post- apoc movie

Carriers looks great, but this is also a good example of why I don't watch trailers. They basically spoiled the entire movie including the main plot twist, so there's little point in watching it now. I'm starting to think American audiences hate surprises.

    Religious nutjobs change history

Yes, but isn't that expected from the Chinese? Why was this vatted before? This isn't an attempt to get people to go "oh that's bad" it's just to hear what people think of the consequences of it. As I said, MSNBC is pretty biased. Any other sources?

    Religious nutjobs change history

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/35839979/ns/us_news-education I saw this on I Am Bored and had to post it here. The article says that after a vote in the Texas State Board of Education, elements indirectly advertising the Christian faith and traditions, along with ultraconservative ideology...

    Healthcare reform just passed!

If my priority was good healthcare, I wouldn't be able to give a straight answer. Also, American democracy is, well... Not the best one.

    Healthcare reform just passed!

True, but democracies can be shitty too. Especially when they don't care for their own citizens. Maybe this is kind of a "does the end justify the means?" problem. Or rather, based on what you consider most important in a society. Political freedom or good standard of living for most.
