14mm

SkynetV4

Mildly Dipped
I was wondering about gun calibers today and remembered Fallout and asked myself: Is it feasible to build and use a 14mm pistol? Wouldn't the gun be ridiculously big for a human? What do you think fellow wastelanders?

It's possible, but it certainly wouldn't be a combat weapon. I remember seeing a picture once of a custom revolver in .600 Nitro Express.

Whoa!

Shit, thats the kind of gun that Hollywood directors tend to elevate to cult status. Got any extra data on that gun, Gwydion.

.50 cal is 12.7 mm, the original data for this pistol in fallout came from the pnp rpg gurps, remember originally fallout was supposed to be titled "Fallout: A G.U.R.P.S. Computer Role Playing Game".

I don't think one exists in real life though, it would be huge.

It wouldn't be much of a pistol if you have to use four hands and eight legs to hold the thing....

Mohrg

Isn't there a Desert Eagle model that has the .50 caliber? ( I think it's the original, Israeli version).

Yes, it was developed by Israel Military Industries(IMI) in the early 80's. The Desert Eagle is also chambered for .41 AE, .41 Magnum, .357 Magnum and .44 Magnum.

14 mm doesn't exist (except in the Fallout universe)
When this thing shoots it rips your shoulder off. LIterally.
Hence, it's unreal.

I don't know too much about firearms, so I was wondering, what's more powerful- .50 cal, or .454 Casul? B/c I've heard that the .454 was the most powerful handgun round...

Different rounds altogether, meaning you are talking about .50 cal action express for the Desert Eagle. The .454 has more velocity, but the .50 has a larger projectile. It's like debating 9mm parabellum versus .45 acp.

I'm sure it would be possible to make a handgun chambered for a 14 mm cartridge, but I doubt it would be practical.

Of course it's possable... i've seen a 3 shot 12 gauge revolver. completely impractical but still cool.

Wasn't the 14mm the gun that was supposed to be one of a kind in fallout 1&2, but showed up in numerous encounters? It was that one that was cut down from the big rifle?
Or was it the one that looked like an smg, but when you character shot it, the recoil made your arm fly backwards?
Anyways, the best pistol would have to be the cougar magnum. Are you feeling lucky, punk? Well, are you?

Forget magnums...

Colt Commander .45 ACP, sweet piece of hardware. powerful, accurate, pleasing to the eye.

Isn't the Cougar Magnum like, made up for James Bond 007 Goldeneye, the N64 game?

Anyways, the gun that was exclusive in Fallout 1 was the .223 Pistol. It was all over the place in the 2nd one, but in the Fallout 1 there was only one, you got it from helping the guy in the Hub kill the raiders that took over his farm.

Dirty Harry had a Smith and Wesson M29, if I remember correctly.
