1957 Plymouth to Emerge from Tulsa Time Capsule

They just don't make them in that cool orange color anymore.

LMFAO dat ineriour is strait custum dawg! God... I can not stop laughing at how awful this ended up... lol just, wow.

Knew it wound end up like that... 1950's they didn't really know all that much about perserving metal. Take a look at any metal product they said was rust-proof from that era...

Hah, they have a huge time capsule in my hometown of Seward, Nebraska. Here's a picture.

According to the sign (Circa 1977), it holds the world record as the biggest time capsule. I highly doubt it's still the largest, but hey, our small town of almost 6,000 has to have something to get excited about.

It was built back in 1975, by a local coot, and contains a '75 Chevy Vega (0 miles), a Kawasaki motorcycle (new) , a leisure suit, children's letters, and all sorts of other crap that people in 1975 thought would be fun to throw in. It's a 50 year capsule and will be opened in 2025, when they'll give away the artifacts inside as door prizes.

I'm pretty damn sure the Vega and the Kawasaki will be a toast, like the Tulsa Plymouth. There's almost no way of preventing moisture from deteriorating everything.

Hey, apparently they actually tried to start the car? Is it just me or does simply starting a car after fifty years of inactivity sound like about as good an idea as (...wait for it...) Morrowind with guns? (Ker-zing)

Still would be a nice random encounter for F3: You find a burial site, read some info about a "buried car", hope it to be a car like in F2, and find some rusty piece of junk.

This was really a good laugh! I hope they find a way to restore the car somewhat... Would be a shame to reduce it to scrap.

Also, maybe the Seward, Nebraska vault could be revised and re-sealed after this interesting case study? Maybe TheFondler can take up this initiative, and go into history as "the preserver of the Seward vault" :p

If I do, I better get that damn Kawasaki.

Holy shit, it's a rusted over Highwayman.

Damn dude, that tickled a Fallout nerve so well. That like sedated me. Just pure AWESOME. :D

You just don't see cars like that anymore, now, do you....

Back in the 1950's, they knew how to make cars...that looked good and sailed the (road)Highways...

And yes, it is a rusted over Highwayman. It could, therefore, be interesting to see a misc, quest in FO3, maybe to find a 1957's car in a time capsule...

CNN had a fun quote for their article's photo:
Organizers of Friday's unveiling found that the car's vault may have been built to withstand a nuclear attack, but it couldn't guard against moisture

yet another sinister Vault-Tec experiment?
