40k Games Like Total War

So I’ve been looking through the history of WH40k games to find a game like Total War Warhammer, but set in the 40k universe instead of Warhammer Fantasy.

I tried Dawn of War, didn’t like it, 2 and 3 were... eh, and 1 was basically Starcraft with a different coat of paint imo. Recently tried Sanctus Reach, which was turn based, but I really liked it, honestly. Then I tried Gladius, which is basically what I’m looking for, but barebones as shit.

So what I’m wondering is: does anyone have any suggestions? I’ve tried Space Hulk, and Regicide, and Sanctus Reach, and Dawn of War, and Deathwatch, and Battle for Tallarn for mobile, and I’ve still not found what I’m looking for? Will I ever? Who knows.

I haven't tried Starcraft but... what? Ain't Starcraft has a lot more base building like Warcraft? Sure DoW1 has you still build some buildings, but iirc Starcraft don't have Point Requisition Node (or whatever it is) for resources, right? In DoW1 you directly compete with the opponents for resources nodes, and I assume Starcraft's resource gathering is like Warcraft where any competition for resources are 'indirect' (e.g you just gather resources where you found them, and maybe disrupt your opponent's resources gathering instead of battling it out for resources nodes).

Even then, I didn't play the DoW games for the base building. The strongest aspect of the 40k games I've played is for the campaigns. Although I'm a bit biased because my first DoW games are actually Dawn of War 2. A lot of people dislike the shift from base and army building to what it is in DoW2 but I really love the RPG-esque aspect of increasing the skills and gaining perks, while assigning gears and choosing the next mission. Only having a handful of squads against 100s of enemies in a single mission, amounting to thousands and more in the grander scale is very '40k' to me.

Anyway, for the latest 40k games that's good from what a lot of people say, you should try Mechanicus, although it's more tactical RPG than a Total War/4X game. Here's the review by Sseth on meds:

I'll check it out man, thanks.

And yeah, I didn't like the base building in 1. I enjoyed aspects of DoW 2, you know? It just didn't scratch that itch like I wanted.

Dawn of War 1 and 2 are great games and anyone that disagrees is a moron. They are however not very similar to Total War, which is a shitty game series that should die off already. Warhammer 40,000: Gladius is pretty badass but it is more similar to Civilization than Total War.

Depends on what you mean by like Total war?
Now, Warhammer is only a name to me, but if by like Total war, you mean with a campaign map where you overlord things, and a real time battle map where you, overlord things, well last time I checked, the Total war series were the only games to offer both features in gameplay.

But last time I checked was, a while ago, maybe 3-4 years so I could be wrong. Actually I could even be off by thinking that total war warhammer even has the same kind of gameplay, I stopped following the series post medieval II, so if am off boat, forget I said anything.
