A Comparison

Now, if there was one thing I have never pictured, in a post-apocalyptic landscape or not, it is a car balanced on a pillar. Now that I've seen such images, they are rather appealing, an interesting balance, somehow aesthetically pleasing. I noticed something though...

The first is a piece of concept art for Fallout 3 (by Chris Applehans), and to the right is part of a screenshot from The Fall. What does everyone think of this similarity? Where did this concept (of a balancing car on a pillar in a post-apocalyptic setting) come from anyway?

My only guess is that it suggests civilization. I mean, there is sure to be lots of abandon buildings post-apocalypse, but if you see a building with a car on a post it kinda symbols "PEOPLE ARE HERE!". Pre-apocalypse there would be no real practicle reason to put a car on a poll, so its like a beacon to vagrants.

unless it's a warning , just like Dracul did, putting his enemy's head on spikes around his domain.

There is actually a car on the top of a pole outside a Connie's Pizza in Chicago. Used to be a a great place, has declined in quality.

Think whole person, not just head. He learned that pleasent little tip from the Turks.

You would think so... but i find it far easier to pike a head than a whole person...

... uhh... not that i condone such experements. ....

The two images are quite different. The car on the left was lprobably left there, you see no organised deed in that, unless it was put there by some drunk mutants (it's from F3...).

It shows a pointless survival of a part of civilization while all around is destroyed.

The right one lies on a pike that was surely built by a human. It might be put there for fun, but rather for scaring off an intruder by demonstrating the owners' power.

These are my feelings.

I think the Fall just ripped off some FO3 concept art.

It's probably that because it's strange? I like the look of the concept art as it looks like it's been 'skewered' or something, while the rat skulls car thingy just looks static and boring mebbe?

Hm. I agree. Striking similarities somehow. Strange.

The concept art looks more vivid. The Fall screenshot looks very static.

Yeah.
You know how on the box for FO it said "Remember Wasteland?"?
Well, on the case for the Fall, it says "We're just like Fallout. See? Even our name's similar. Please buy me!"

Heh. I remember when they first announced Fallout 3's cancellation, those mofo's were all over the fucking place trying to prop themselves up as the timely replacement for FO3. Having "the Fall" replace Fallout 3 is like having your penis severed and replacing it with a silly putty molding of Rodney Dangerfield's head.

No fucking respect...

Actually, that was the point I was getting at, though I didn't want to point it out first thing (what would be the fun in that?).

Though, Blade Runner, that's not surprising, I doubt it would be any different if we saw the same car in a finished Fallout 3. Conceptional game artwork, when created by competent artists (as is Chris Applehans) tend to be more organic (and thus, vivid) than something created by a 3D engine.

Question, will people actually buy The Fall, no matter how much complaining about it goes on in the Fallout community? I don't mean that people will love it when it comes out, but buy it and give it a try?

I'm going to check it out. I'm not really biased or militant about Fallout or anything, so the whole thing doesn't really bother me.

It looks like a fun game. 'Course we won't know if it is a fun game until it comes out.

I'll be scanning the reviews for the game, if they're good, I'll probably pick it up when it gets a decent price tag.
