A Harsh Reality Chapter 1 : Legacies, Lovers and Toxins

OOC - I read through long posts, its only when there's a dozen or mor each day i skim them, and trust me that does happen. Anyway these posts aren't very long for those of you who took part in south of the border. I think that we should try to keep it short for now, perhaps work somethings out over ICQ when it comes to intricate combats or detailed conversations. And every so often, most probably, I would post a long post that either summarizes what has just happens, or introduces a new segment in the story.

And I'm not sure if it came out right in my last post, I've seen a thread or two where I introduced the story and made thew important descisions. What happened? The players all gave up because I was dragging them by the nose.

I also think that it helps to vary things between the typical hack 'n slash and developing character. I've tried slightly to develop Fang's character, Blade is more towards the hack 'n slash idea though.

Sorry i can't post IC now, but what would I say, Fang is standing in the corner listening, there's only so much of that a thread can take.

One other thing, we now have a seperate thread for characters, do you think we should also create a thread for more lengthy OOC messages and important notices? Never been done before here to my knowledge, but anyways it might work

"Right then, drinks are on me!" Remington yelled as he barged in.
But much to his relief, he was met by blank stares from the crowd.
"Erm.. Never mind then.." Remington muttered.
"One ale then." He said to the barkeeper as he sat down on a stool. "Come t think of it, better make that two ales!" Remington said. He was eager to waste his new found wealth. But only on himself, mind you.

OOC: Personally I don't mnd long posts, it's not that much activity in this thread, so I enjoy atleast reading a long post.
Anyways, sorry about the absence, but I had some trouble getting ahold of my password.

OOC: You know me, I just love long poses! The action reads more like a book when one uses that kind of approach. As for character sheets and all that, what kind do you want us to use? Traditional Fallout style with skills, traits, stats, etc?

IC: "Ouch!" The exclamation rolled across the confines of the small room as a tall man with jet black hair attempted to 'operate' on the wounded young man. "Jeez doc, go a little easy on the arm, will you? Liquor only does so much to stop the pain, you know," the younger man complained, being very careful not to view his left arm. "Son, it's going to hurt a LOT more if you don't stop complaining," the doctor growled, using a screwdriver to push the protruding bone back into the skin. The pain was incredible. The young man's vision tunneled in on him, and he suddenly felt very light-headed and sick to his stomach. It was all he could do to keep from falling off the stool on which he resided. A few moments later, the doctor rose up from his stooped position, surveyed his handiwork, then grinned slyly. "Well, you'll live. I've splinted up that nasty break, but it's going to need some time to heal. I suggest you take it easy with that arm for a week or two at the least," the doctor intoned like some monotonous robot, occasionaly winking at his 'patient'. "I'd give you some painkillers or a stimpak if I had 'em, but supplies are sometimes hard to get this far to the east." The young man could only nod in a stupour, his mind obviously grappling with the invasion of pain from his wound. Suddenly, he was lucid for a second, the pain retreating into a corner somewhere, and he gazed levelly at the doctor. "Where exactly is this place, doc," he questioned, fingers drumming on the table next to him impatiently. "The town's called Espoir. Founded by a mutie named Rachat way back in the day. Unfortunately things have gone to hell in a handbasket as of late. Talk to the guys up front, and tell the barkeep that Doc Humphrey says you can have a drink on him. It's my perscription for you," the doctor drawled, collecting his bloody implements off of the table and stuffing them into a battered old bag. With a last wink at the young man, the doctor made his way to the front room and out the squeaky metal door.

The young man got up slowly, so as not to disturb the sling that his set arm was cradled by, and followed in the doctor's footsteps. The conversation buzzed along, but the young man could not follow it very well as he was still struggling with his pain and also his memories. Turning to Garret behind the bar, he addressed him with a stutter: "Ex...excuse me. The doctor said that I could have a drink on him. For the pain and all." Waiting hesitantly, he climbed onto a stool, swiviled around to where he could view the occupants of the room, and let the low roaring of voices ease his mind for a little while.

Occ: Sorry I've been takeing my sweet time to post.
IC:
The dull pulsating pain in Ferago's head brought him back to consciousness. Noticing the slightly bloody stone next to his face he put two and two together. The grenade he had kicked off the roof had blow a piece of stone off the chimney and hit him in the head. He sat up slowly and propped him self up on his arms. Ferago rubbed his head and blinked several times as the sounds from the bar room below him drifted to his ears. He picked up his gun and climbed slowly off the roof, one hand to his head as he went. Opening the kitchen door to the bar Ferago was surprised to see people in side. "Hey there Ferago! I though you had gotten your self killed!" Gus the cook said not even paying attention to the brahmin burgers he was flipping. A thin smile spread across Ferago's face as he walked from the kitchen into the bar. He had managed to live, this far any way.

He searched one of the men and found money, two guns and ammo for each. He also came across a holo-disk. He loaded it onto is pipboy and began to skim through it.

Sergeant Halls travel logs

Day 1
The LT. wants us to march another east before turning south. Supplies are holding up better than we predicted. We have been able to keep human contact to a minimal. No one can know about our mission.

Day 2
We have found a spring. The water has a low rad count and is drinkable. We are leaving behind what we can spare to take the water with us. The water tank we brought with us is filled again and we now have barrel fulls of water. God only knows how many more of these springs we will find. The sun is shining and the air is fresh. This should be an easy journy.

Day 4
Gekos, rad scorpians, and mantis have been all that we meet on our mission. The gekos are the wores to fight, but the rad scorpians go striat for the bramihn. The land is leveling out making travel easyer.

Day 8
We have begun to trap to refill on food. One of the bramihn was poisoned by a rad scorpian. Killed it and bleed it taking what meat was still good. We still have enough water.

Day 16
Some strange creature has been about. My men are disapeering and all the bramihn have been slautered. we know have to pull the carts by hand. The water tank is getting lighter every day but i'm not getting stronger.

Day 32
I sware i saw a demon. It took half of my men in battle before we killed it. The claws on this thing were huge. One swipe could rip off a mutant fase. We caught it steeling our food. we must cut our rations in half if we hope to survive.

Day 64
We were so damn close. Those fucking mutis got in our damn way we do not have the man power left to fight through them. we must trun back now.

Day 128
I do not understand it. We should have found some sign of civilization by now. it took us this long to get down there. Almost everyone is dead. Just me and 9 others left. the water tank sprung a leak and all the water was lost. we will surely die. Our only hope is to reach the Hub. We will join a caravan to NCR. We can get home from there. the only problem is we don't know were we are. The maps were burned in a fire and our pipboy are damaged.

Day 256
I have made it home. Four of us survived the ordeal. The captian has decided the location unreachabel. He has his eyes set on a bigger prize. The only problem is it is harder to reach. unless we can all sprout wings and fly there is no way there. He still think there is a way.

Bob ran inside with the holo-disk. "Yo guys, check this out"

OOC - Sorry, I had a really large English project for school, knowing me, i left it to the very last day, and scrapped all the notes i spent ages writing. I've been unavailable for the last three days working on those notes and such - but i'm free now.

And I'm not sure exactly where this is going so i'll let you lead for now, Bob, because of that i still cannont make a particularly long post.

IC - "What does it mean," Blade asked after looking over the log three times.

"What does it mean?" Fang repeated the question from his corner, "And how does it effect us, and why was the guy outside carrying it?"

Blade looked around, he injected himself with a stimpack, the battle had taken more out of him that he thought. He smiled a little, fiddling with a stray lock of black hair, his eyes were distant and he was trying frantically to try to remember something, though he did not quite know what.

The words of the log stirred something in his mind, something he could not quite place.

He had been on the move for a while now, his group had been entirely despatched a while ago, and he came to Espoir hoping to find a new one. He could not quite reach whatever it was he was looking for, so he simply sat in silence, directing his vision out of the farthest window. He pulled an old book from his pack, a pre-war relic, and sat it on the table before him. He studied it for a while, running his eyes over a particular paragraph, he was only listening partially to the conversation now, he thought some how he could discover more looking within

"I wish I knew. Those guys or just that one dude was looking for something. It must have been something big. All that's a little east and far south is desert. I remember some pre-war maps marking marking a very important location. Something my teacher wanted me to memorize." Bob reached deep into his memory. Being such a crappy student as a child, he could not remember what was there. "I wonder if I have any other maps of that area. But then, what's this about the far east?"

OOC:ARGH! I am split between two story lines we could follow. Go strait east or head south east. I can't decide.

Ferago popped the cap off a bottle of nuka cola and began to drink it. It was flat and warm, just like every other drink he had had. He sat at his seat at the bar, the man next to him reading a book. Various conversations carried through the bar now but the one that interested him most was the one that promised travel. Ferago had cushioned into this town roughly two years ago. He liked it, but he wanted to leave. Although he would need more convincing then some random people with a disk. He had maps in his trailer, lots of them. Every map cataloged in his mind. Some maps were old, some were new but they all seemed to go hazy or destroyed when it got to the East. Someone or something with prewar military knowledge would probably have a rough idea of how things were out there. But no one with that knowledge was here now, only a room full of people getting slowly drunk. Ferago looked in the direction of the man who had brought the disk in. "Was that corpse in an organization of some kind?" Ferago said with a freshly alert mind, thanks to the caffeine in his drink. "What?" Bob replied. "The man you got that disk off of. Did he look like he was in an organization of any kind?" Said Ferago.

"They fought like they were organized. Their clothes were mostly uniform. I would guess they were a part of a gang. Maybe ambishous raiders. Don't hold me to any of that. I MIGHT have some maps of the areas mentioned. None are with me right now but I know how we can get them real quick. I have an associate in Broken Hills who can help us out. If you guys want I can call him up and ask."

"Does he have the maps?" Ferago asks.

"No, but he's got a long distance radio. I need it to contact my base. That is were the maps are. That's not my only resource too. So if that doesn't help, I know were I could find some maps."

OCC: Its not that its hard to build off of. I just don't know where this should head.

It is in a way, but then that's because you all have tons more creative genius than me, anyway I'm thinking of breaking this into some action again, perhaps a drunken bar fight that could link the two plots together. The one I meant to introduce but never fully got around to, I'll see what I can come up with. I'll try to write a fairly long post next, perhaps leading the adventure into somewhere else. Tell me OOC then, do we head east right away or investiage the reasons behind the attack?

OOC: East or South East? If you want I can post a spoiler of what is at the two places to help you choose. I got two plots I want to do and one thread.

OOC: Well we could go South East and then East? And don't spoil it =)

HTML:
OOC: Sorry it's been so long, I just haven't had time due to school and other stuff. But I'm back. I'm all for moving on just as soon as we get some more info. Perhaps conducting a raid or stealth operation would shed some more light on the problem at hand. ;)[html]

OOC: What is the problem? I am starting to forget where this was going. Either way our characters should get some kind of plan going.
