a Post apocalyptic RTS

Schiz

First time out of the vault
A mind wanders through the day and suddenly my mind got to the idea that a Fallout like building game would be very cool.

Fallout shows many levels of civilization, from tribal villages to PA cities. A game that would take this into a game, where scavenging, farming and protection become main elements, could be fun.

but that's sort of where my thought end and my needs begin... i'm looking for a game like that. Creating something like it isn't my thing...too lazy... but maybe something like it already exists?

anyone ideas about PA games that include building a town, protecting it against raiders and ghouls, sending out teams to gather resources for buildings and other PA stuff?

Yeah i have the same idea, I have been creating a design doc for it. Though it is not in the Fallout universe, it is influenced by it. That and Resident Evil games.

Zero project is interesting but it is not an RTS (Real-Time Strategy game). What Schiz is talking about is something within the Fallout Universe that takes the gameplay of Command and Conquer, Total War, Supreme Commander and maybe even a little Sim City.

I wonder if there is a game company brave enough to tackle the task of developing a post-apocalyptic strategy game. In order to get the feel you will have introduce the aspect of depleted resources and technology as well as the need for commerce of the basic necessities in order to survive. I think there would have to be two parts of building a faction. First, is surviving as a fledgling nation-state and second is expansion whether its in military, politics, or commerce.

I wrote up an idea for this long ago.

It is four phases: settle, build, explore, conquer.

You start with this little band of people leaving a vault and you have to set up a city. You can do it instantly but you need: water, food, timber, and metal. So you explore the map looking for a good spot, while fending off raiders or mole rats.

When you find the right place you make your settlement. Trading post brings in money, but could lead to raiders. Armory gives you guns but crime goes up.

When you are ready you start sending people out into the wasteland to get supplies, trade, even find old technology. Your explorer can be caught meaning an enemy knows where you are.

The last part is just standard RTS. Run out kill the enemy, maybe enslave them, and take over the map.

Desert Law is a post-apocalyptic strategy game I've wanted to try for some time. It uses the same engine as and is similar to Blitzkrieg.

It doesn't have any micro-management like base building though, just fast paced action in armored and heavily armed buggies and trucks. I don't really know any SimCity-esque games, although there's a Fallout mod for Civilization III and I remember seeing a shitty post-apocalyptic tycoon game in a store once.

I have. Good ideas, but poor implementation. It quickly becomes a painfully long wait between turns, as he thought it was a good idea to place HORDES of Radscorpions all over the map -- oh, and they spawn, too. Better patrol the wastes slaughtering them, unless you like to stare at the screen for long periods of time, wondering when it's going to crash your Civ3. I wish he'd update it, or something, because like I said, it's got some good ideas.

Edit: Also, I find it lulzy that I have half as many posts as you in double the time. xD

Shitty tycoon? Does it include building manure-driven power plants Master Blaster style?

Hmm only PA RTS games I can think of are Tribal Rage (which had a really good customization system) and the KKND games.

I think I saw the crappy tycoon game once on a bargain shelf.

oh, I see. Well, I dont have civ3, just civ4, I think I cannot see this mod right now, even if I wanted.

Also, I find it lulzy that I have half as many posts as you in double the time. xD

hahaha probably you never have been a really active user. I just started to be active here now, for the last couple of weeks, although last year from time to time I appeared and posted in some topics.

Well, voilà: there you have your post-apoc rts!

Enjoy!
