As most have (hopefully) already noticed, Bethesda put up a tribute page to concept artist adam Adamowicz, who died of complications of lung cancer. They put a grand total of over 2000 pieces of concept art online, from Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Skyrim. 809 pieces of Fallout 3 concept art are available. We have added a selection to our local concept art gallery (note: they have been resized for our gallery to have a maximum width/height of 1900, larger versions are often available on flickr):

Thanks The Vault.

Wow... The concept art looks way more Fallout than the final product.
Megaton in the concept art... Just.. Damn...

I've went through most of those the other day. I'm still in awe of those Vault images. Amazing concept art. I can only hope we'll see something like that in future games.

Megaton looks great as well. Also vault doors open the right way in his art unlike in the game, tis those little things. :V

Even the Jefferson Memorial stuff looks less silly than how it ended up in the game.

Great stuff. The guy was very talented. It's a shame his talent was somewhat wasted with Beth. :\

The Novac dinosaur has been insipred by the Burger Bunker?

Certainly looks that way.

Looks like the man was more than bethesda deserved, their modelers really butchered his work. Great stuff. I'd totes buy a book of his work if the profits went to his family or a charity or something

It's a great shame, the man was certainly talented. His penmanship was excellent, and if Bethesda followed his concepts more the games they produced could have been even better. Lung cancer - I wonder if he was a smoker.

I actually think that capturing the visual aesthetic of Fallout is one thing Bethesda did pretty well. Looking at this art, it seems Adam played a substantial role in that.

You all need to get a clue. Vast majority of concept art in ALL GAMES ends up looking different, or less impressive than what you get in the game. Hell, you could actually blame him as well, for not taking in to account the technology that Bethesda had at the time.

But that means not blaming Bethesda for everything that is evil, so...

You can pretend it's normal for people to see concept art from these stages, but it's not. The concept art drawn over engine renders, for instance, almost never make it to the public. This is a fairly unique glance at the whole process, so it's not surprising people find it interesting to see how much changes and is cut from the concept stages onwards.

Fallout 3/NV ran on an out-dated engine, so it's not shocking it'd do relatively badly in executing good concepts. I wouldn't say modelling is generally Bethesda's weakness, though, as much as animation.

You sure like complaining about other people, don't you? Give it a rest.

Besides, Adam is a part of Bethesda. He worked there, as far as I know, with pride and pleasure. By praising him, we're praising Bethesda. There's nothing new there, Fallout 3's concepts and parts of it look have always been praised here.

I'm getting great vibes from some of these. I love the art deco style buildings in #502, there should've been more of that in the actual game.

Imagine this (or this) being how you exit the vault and not this punny little hole in ground. Damn, I still wish New Vegas would have had only one really big vault, with a huge entrance, similar to the bunker gate in Vault City. That's scenery I'd like to see in 3d. Then at least you get a real clue about shit's size.
