Advice for maximising replay value through mods

After reading so much about Fallout 4, I really want to go back and play New Vegas again. The problem is that I've played it so much, I'm worried about knowing it too well. I've played with a few mods before (e.g. TWW alternative start, bug fixes, New Vegas Uncut, NV Bounties, For the Enclave), but don't know a huge amount about mods.

I really want to completely give New Vegas a new lease of life. I'm planning on getting the DLCs (which I have only played once each on PS3) so I can finally play Josh Swayer's mod. I'm planning on getting as many mods that add content as well e.g. Autumn Leaves, Boulder Done.

I was wondering if there is any mod that can really change the main game? Like, I know how to do all the quests, where all people / items are etc. Is there anything that could, for example, move around NPCs, change requirements for quests / speech checks, move items etc and overall change the content so it feels a bit more like a new game? I'm not expecting a major re-writing, but something like the alternative start mod, which just by starting you in a new location makes the game and world feel fresh.

  • How does JSwayer interact with other overhauls like Project Nevada / Fook? Can I have all of them? Is it recommended?
  • Is there a good guide for load order / mods crashing (I've had problems w/ World of Pain, Run the Lucky 38, The one where you start a base, companions etc)?
  • What is the best way to play DLCs along with game e.g. not so early its too hard / you get amazing items so early, but not so late that it is easy and items are useless?
  • Are there any good mods that make the game harder and AI better without just increasing their health or stats? Any mods that increase difficulty outside of combat e.g. speech, trade, sneaking? (without marking the game too punishing)

I'd love any other recommendations for mods as well that add any content to the game (e.g. more settlements, homes) or any good gameplay tweaks!

I know I'm asking a lot here, but I'd really appreciate any advice any of you have for giving New Vegas a fresh feel! Thank you!

JeSawyer has some compatibility patches with Project Nevada so you can run both at the same time if you download those.

Load orders can be automated with the LOOT and BOSS tools as they go off an online masterlist for optimal Mod order, altho some manual switching around is still reccomended if you are running too many mods.

There is an Ai overhaul mod that makes enemies heal more often and adds some of the "take cover" ai packages from the Hoover Dam battle to some items in the world. Ultimately Project Nevada is fully modular so you can customize it to your liking, you can even lower the level cap and make yourself earn one pekr every 3 levels and such.

Some other interesting mods to add replayability are: The alternate start mod, which is as it says, allows you choose a different starting point with many options for backstories and such. RobCO Certified which allows you to build your own robots if you meet the skill requirements and it even has a compatibility feature with Alternate Start so you start off with the perk and the proper equipment.

Moburna's New Vegas Uncut series is also really good, but the Freeside and Strip open mods might require a very good rig to work.

Utility Mods I reccomend: JIP's Companion Control, Realistic Weapon Overheating and the Crafting overhaul mods that will add both hundreds of new recipes but will also change the crafting UI to make it faster to craft multiple items.
Hitman's animation mods are also really good but you have to join the GUN NETWORK forum to download them.

Quest mods: The Someguy2000 series, Autum Leaves and Niner.

Just remember to always install the appropiate NVSE versions and Plugins and to use the 4gb launcher.

On DLC order, I'll say it's up to you. I usually do Honest hearts first because is the easier one and Lonesome Road last, just right before going into Hoover Dam for Dramatic propouses.

You could give Fallout: Dust a try. It basically turns NV into a pure survival simulator; no quests, no friendly NPC's (aside from the occasional merchant), VERY limited resources etc. It is set about 20 years after the events of NV, so it should be a completely unique experience.

The most recent way I've found to keep New Vegas somewhat fresh is to change the voice overs to a different language. I changed them to Spanish and I'm role-playing as an English speaking character who wandered in to a Hispanic Nevada, with a low INT build to simulate my lack of Spanish proficiency. There aren't that many low int dialogues unfortunately, but I'm still having lots of fun with it.

Does NV have a Latin American Spanish localisation by any chance? The dubbing I downloaded from steam is in Castilian Spanish, and I'd rather do without those 'lisps' if I can.
