Afterfall interview on NMA

To celebrate Afterfall's site launch, NMA has done an interview with Afterfall developer intoxicate. It is full of info on what they're planning to do and important facts on the demo they are working on;
What then will the Afterfall world offer to the player who decides to abandon the main storyline?

A whole galaxy of possibilities. For example, you will be able to join one of the organizations you meet along the way, and perform tasks for them. One of those are Scrappers, a midget-like race living in their fortress made of junk, who are suspicious of any normal human. If you win their trust, however, you will be able to perform contracts for them, giving you access to new parts of the world and unique objects. Another organization the player can join is the great and powerful Trade Federation. It maintains commerce in most regions of the Afterfall world, and gaining its gratitude will give one vast knowledge of farther territories. Additionally, there are numerous gangs and mobs. The Injector Gang, for instance, who illegally manufacture and distribute implants. On top of that there are more than a dozen tribes, a Mutant Liberation Front, religious sects – really, I could go on for a long time; there are so many possibilities the player will never be bored. Some of the organizations I just mentioned are described in more detail on our webpage.
Let's hope this'll catch the eye of financiers, publishers or wealthy excentric philantropist, these guys should get all the help they need.

"Without the money, making the demo could last even 6 or 8 months longer, by then we will have lost our chance, because Betsheda will have released Fallout 3. With the money we could release the demo by Christmas, and the rest of pre-production would be ready by the end of summer."

A good game certainly has a window of opportunity but I highly doubt Fallout 3 (whatever they will call it) will be out this year. That being said they have time, even if Fallout 3 hits before they do. A good game is a good game no matter when it is released. Marketing (and word of mouth) is as important if not more so than timing.

If we will speak with publishers, question "when the game will be ready" is realy IMPORTANT, what publishers want is CASH, and this is compared with marketing Man.

You're referring to the retail product, I assume. I am referring to the demo. I should have been more specific. Forgive me.

Though I know absolutely nothing about the games industry other than the info one reads on the web. There are more demos or mods released that have lead to retail products than there are start up companies finding a backer before releasing a demo/mod.

Again I know what a backer wants for a demo is not something you can (or would be willing to) release for public consumption in most cases. So why not focus on getting the $10,000 for the engine license and then finish the demo. With a high quality demo on the net you will have much higher odds at landing a deal or finding a financier.

That way the team can focus on the demo and if it is of high quality maybe the members can pool the $10,000 for the engine license and then recoup the investment when you find the producer to back your game? Just a thought.

Either way I wish you the best of luck. I love the genre and any game is better than no game. I just hate to hear your looking for a financier and if you don't find one the project is over.

Good Luck. Hope to see a demo later this year.

Actually, just because Bethesda is going to finish Fo3 sometime, doesn't mean that your chances go low. And Bethesda haven't even got anything to show at E3, so I don't think they'll release the game within 06.

As for your Techdemo\gameplay demo, you need to make it feel like a really nice and interesting game, if not no one will pick it up.

Good luck.

Looks great, cant wait till the demo comes out. Gl with everything in this game.

Also hope you get the funding you need when you need it, this game looks to be a hella lot better then their F3.

8. A lot of games irritated me because of the stupid/weird reactions of NPCs towards my character. Reactions like NPC?s talking with me after I just slaughtered their entire family. Or situations when NPCs in Location X treat me like shit because I’ve done something evil somewhere in the far end of the wastelands. Can I count on Afterfall to eliminate such crap?

Lol it reminds me a game that was released recently...

Maybe, but in Afterfall we dont use RadiantAI, we have our systems for that, different systems.

hey I know :) I only have great expectations for your game ! Can't wait for it !! It's by far one of the greatest thing I've seen this year so far.
