AK-112 5mm Assault Rifle (AKA the WTF rifle)

Oh, sorry, I actually thought it was real "Fallout lore" and I was surprised, as it would mean USA and USSR actually had their Cold War in the Fallout world as well.
 
Nope. There's no actual lore that says "AK" in "AK-112" means it's a russian 'AK' or that the 'AK' exists as an 'AK' at all, or what.
 
So you are saying they implemented Assault Rifles and called them AK's but did not want them be related in any way to real life AK Assault Rifles? I don't see that as a good answer to the "WTF rifle" thing. Other explanations, like the good USA-USSR diplomatic situation, have at least some facts to defend them with.

They called one assault rifle an 'AK', but because it doesn't even vaguely look like an 'AK', I have trouble thinking it is/was intended to be the same sort of rifle.
