Anandtech praises Fallout 3

Anandtech included Fallout 3 in their list of Eight Months of PC Gaming. It's not really noteworthy for anything other than repeating the 200-endings misconception, but it's a slow newsday, so.
While Fallout 3 might be referred to as a first person shooter, its cult followers know better. The game is very much an RPG with deep statistical character progression that will result in a different experience for each gamer who plays it. In this role-playing experience of epic proportions, the story unfolds thirty years after the events in Fallout 2. The year is 2050 and Vault 101 where your character's lineage took refuge during a nuclear holocaust is now open. In an attempt to investigate the disappearance your father, you emerge into the mutant-ridden wasteland that is Washington D.C. While there are countless ways to play Fallout 3, Bethesda has made sure that the outcome is also varied. In fact, there will apparently be 200 ending scenarios. So, if you're the type of gamer whose goal will be experiencing each ending, this may well be the last game you buy! Look for Fallout 3 on PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 later this year sometime between Halloween and Christmas.
Link: Eight Months of Gaming on Anandtech (page 4).

Thanks tfp.

Yeah...It sounds so ironical...Except it isn't.

Anyway, I would be gladly surprised if it turns out that Fallout 3 is INDEED a rpg !

Another hardware site talking about games... I've got nothing against Anandtech when it comes to hardware, but I don't think they are qualified to describe what Fallout 3 is. Not that most gaming sites are, either... :|

Writing an article about how wrong this article is, will probably be a much longer article than the article I'm writing about.

Seriously, every 'respected' (*coughing*) site or mag that writes about FO3 absolutely *needs* to mention the 'good ol' fans of FO' and say what 'they' (the good ol' fans they mention) think about FO3. For some ,ehm, not really clear reason those sites and mags don't completely understand the "good ol' fans of FO" (actually, most of them are completely wrong, except for something I heard on Tom's Games during their most anticipated games of 2008 Second Take video).
Anyway, if the sites and mags really hold the 'fans of Fallout' in such a high regard (we do get mentioned every preview and interview) perhaps they should 'ASK' us what we think INSTEAD of putting words in our mouth ? (It's almost looks like they're trying to choke us isn't it?)

Perhaps, you should hold a press conference about it BN

They've done so, multiple times.

It ended up in a bit of a mess with Games For Windows, the Escapist did a better piece, especially in selecting quotes (I wasn't fully happy with the selection of quotes from GFW), but I'm still grateful to both outlets for allowing us the chance to speak. Audi alteram partem has always been one of the most important journalistic principles for me. Fox is the only major news channel I know of that consistently does not apply it, and it always shocks me to see how little it is applied by gaming media. Lack of professionalism, really.

Though I do note that when I go to other sites one of the first things I tend to be told is that while I sound reasonable, many of the people they had visiting from NMA do not. I tend to then point out that nobody has the right to speak for NMA except for staff, and they (begrudgingly) accept this. But it does annoy me to no ends that people feel the need to troll or flame on other sites in our name. That's pure abuse, in fact.

Hah, the endings thing again. The hype machine at it's best... Isn't there even one preview that clarifies this matter for those who believe it's 200 distinct endings?

It's already been clarified multiple times in interviews.

Actually, I don't think this is hype. It's a mistake. Because "200 endings" won't actually be interpreted positively by many consumers. They'll go "what about my Xbox achievements!" or "way too many, stupid decision".

If they understood the actual design, they'd be positive about it, because the endings-slide system of Fallout is simply a good way to end a game with real choice 'n consequence.

So this isn't hype. I really think Bethesda messed up on this one, and has been trying to correct ever since. Too late, though, as usual their damage control is pretty bad, so now Fallout 3 is the "200 ending" game. And that's stupid.

So Fallout 2 took place in 2020, eighty years after Fallout 1 which, therefore, took place in 1940. Oh really...

That article didn't even include STALKER: Clear Sky, which is coming out this year and looks better (to me) than several other games on that list.

...just from that part of the article I now taste blood and a faint metallic tang in my mouth. The concentrated ignorance shot through the internet out into my face and gave me radiation poisoning. Gratz. :tired:

I didn't even notice that. Major failure!

Edit: corrected a misspelled word
