[ANSWERED] TeamX patch included in Fallout 1 purchase

It was brought to my attention by @Sonim that there's a Fallout Trilogy being sold on Amazon which includes TeamX v1.2 patch.

My understanding is technically they shouldn't include TeamX patch without explicit approval from TeamX.

Is this like the drama with Timeslip and Mash all over again, where distributors included Sfall/ddraw and f1_res without even contacting either of the creators of those?

I find this quite strange. Maybe it was a mistake since it's so common for most folks to install the TeamX patches, that someone goofed and included it thinking the patch was official?

I seem to recall there was an official Interplay v1.2 patch for non-USA versions, but @Sonim says their install files specifically include a TeamX readme.

Any insight is appreciated.

The current Steam/GOG release is the official 1.2 (EU version w/o children FRMs).

Interplay's Fallout Trilogy DVD (2009) includes five versions of the games in .zip archives:
  • Fallout 1 US 1.0 + TeamX 1.2 semi-official patch.
  • Fallout 1 US 1.0 + TeamX 1.2 semi-official patch + 1.3.4 unofficial patch.
  • Fallout 2 US 1.0 + 1.02d official patch.
  • Fallout 2 US 1.0 + killap's 1.02.25 unofficial patch.
  • Fallout Tactics w/ 1.27 official patch.
I bought a copy from Amazon last year and verified the checksum of FO1&2 .dat files are the same as my original US 1.0 CDs.

Interesting. Legally speaking, there's no requirement of them to get approval from TeamX before including such things? @NovaRain

I'm not familiar with those legal stuff, but given the example Interplay included sfall in their old Fallout 2 release without asking Timeslip for permission, it's not surprising they did a similar thing in their Fallout Trilogy 10 years ago.

I doubt they legally need the approval from modders to include their stuff. I believe they own every mods considering they were made with their toolset. They might even sell that stuff separately and give nothing to the modder. (i believe some publishers actually sold some community-mods as separate products)

Yet, it would be appreciated if they at least notified the modder and mentioned him in the credits. That modder is still an human being and that person could feel bad if they didn't even bother to tell him. And that kind of thing wouldn't cost them anything.

Well I'm a cyborg but yes I think most other modders are humans.
