Any post-apocalyptic car games out there?

First time out of the vault
Just thought I'd ask because I haven't seen any for quite a while. I'm talking games like autoduel and Roadwar 2000. I haven't seen anything come out like those for years. I fired up the ole c64 emulator and started play RW again and just thought I'd ask if anyone can give any recommendations.

last i remember were the 'Interstate' games

pimp out yer cars with gatling guns and shit like that, but it's pretty old

You heard the man - Interstate is the way to go. An incredibly stylish game.

Carmageddon 2 is even better, IMHO, but it's a bit unorthodox. Carmageddon TDR 2000 actually has a post-apocalyptic theme (with nukes 'n all), but otherwise it's a shitty sequel to an awesome game.

Never really got into the interstate games, only thing like that i can think of is a MMO Car combat game that was announced at E3 i think, but not much has been released about it yet, tough it looks from the press releases and stuff that their heart is in the right place.

Amen, brother.

I wonder though, what's the point in a post-apocolyptic car game (as in: in what way does it differ from a normal car game?).

Ofcourse when you're talking about something like Roadwarrior (my god how long ago was that?) well there's plenty of games out there that let you drive a car with guns attached, but I don't see the difference between the Post-apoc and non-post-apoc ones.

Compare Fallout and Baldurs Gate.

Quarantine comes to my mind it was called Doom on wheels. Amusing game where you drive taxi in closed city and rest of the world has gone hell.

Oh wow, didn't remember quarantine.... had quite some fun with the demo but never got the whole game... I remeber how cool i tought those bumper spikes were, you'd hit a pedestrian and it be stuck to your car until you *squished* in a wall....

Carmageddon is a great game, highly recommend it. I played the first one a lot, second one was even better. Too bad, I can't get it to work on XP.

i dont classify Carmageddon under "PA". i do remember the subtitle was Carpocalypse Now or something like that, but it never struck me as "PA".

only looked at it as a quick ride to paint the town red and trash other cars...

My copy (of Carma 2) works under XP, but won't support any gamepads/wheels, so I have to use the keyboard. It also won't work in full 3D, tho' I've yet to determine whether that is a fault with XP or with my graphics card.

It's a great, fun game with good replayability, particularly as they (still?) have an active mod scene. Adding a few new cars or maps to it freshens it up a lot.

I wouldn't really class it as PA, it's more dystopian if anything, but that's looking a bit deeper into it than is really necessary.

Yeah. Strictly speaking, there aren't any "real" post-apoc driving games out there.

Unfortunately.

how about Interstate then ?

ok it's not like fallout or anything, but obviously society crumbled & therefore it can be considered PA. pretty much roadwarrior stuff going on...

If the world of carmageddon is not a crumbled society then i dont know what is. For that matter, Rock n Roll Racing has a crumbled society lol

about carmageddon:

a bunch of complete wack0z trashing the place does not make it a crumbled society imho... if that would be the case, the US of A crumbled ages ago.

ok the carmageddon 1 cities & such looked pretty weird and the cops plain nuts, but most of carmageddon 2 looks pretty 'fun' & 'peaceful' until an out of control car comes swinging around the corner crushing about 10 people between itself and a wall... not really what you would expect as a "PA" setting.

i dont know the other game you are refering to though.

Carmageddon - TDR 2000 was definitely post apoc. The game wasn't great, but there were nukes and wastelands and mutated ghoulish people.

I love that series. They need to make another one, worthy of the first two...

If they do, it will probably be XBox only, with robots instead of pedestrians and a fluffy teddy-bear instead of Max Damage.

And they will call it "Carmaggedon X: bumperCarpocalypse now"
