Any post-apocalyptic car games out there?

ok the carmageddon 1 cities & such looked pretty weird and the cops plain nuts, but most of carmageddon 2 looks pretty 'fun' & 'peaceful' until an out of control car comes swinging around the corner crushing about 10 people between itself and a wall... not really what you would expect as a "PA" setting.

I was talking about Carmageddon 1, I havent played Car 2 much, only like one level.

Yeah nowadays they don't make games like that expecially on xbox or ps2. All that stink they raised cause of GTA

Interstate '76 is the obvious one everyone's been mentioning.
Can't forget Death Rally or the similar "Rock 'n' Roll Racing" (sadly only on the Super Nintendo and now the Game Boy Advance).
There's also Quarantine, which someone mentioned, although I never knew it existed outside the 3DO. According to Game F.A.Q.s it had a sequel called "Road Warrior" of all things...
There are some downright shitty console adaptations of the "Interstate" titles called "Vigilante 8". The games play out in an arcade fashion (nonsense physics and weapons) and are not as engrossing as the orriginal, although the multiplayer is pretty fun although quite mindless.

Actually

Actually, I was thinking more along the lines of Autoduel and Roadwar 2000. They were more along the lines of an RPG or Strategy fair. You actully controlled a roadwarrior like car gang across the US or Europe where you would fight other gangs, scavage parts, buy and sell weapons. They were pretty additctive. I actually haven't seen anything out like them since the 80's. You can probably see what I'm refering too at the underdogs.
While I like driving games, I haven't seen anything that really has the elements that compel me to stick with them. Thanks for the suggestions though, I'll be sure to check them out.

you couldve specified that on your first post. But anyway, i don't think i've ever seen any game like that....

Carmageddon TDR 2000 actually has a post-apocalyptic theme (with nukes 'n all), but otherwise it's a shitty sequel to an awesome game.

argh, its my all time favourite racing game..i think it rocks! why is it shitty, ratty?

and i played the 1st two, it just that quick rotrating screen makes me nasious(the puking sensation, cant type it)

Nauseous?

IMO, TDR was poor because it left out the most important aspect of the previous two games. Fun.
Yeah, I know that's a crappy answer, but it's true. :D

Never having played any "Carmageddon" game outside the demo (which I did learn how to hack to let me drive a different car), I can't really pass judgement on them. Mindless fun but nothing more, if I remember.

Anyway, I can't believe I've forgotten the obvious!
"Mad Max" on the Nintendo (NES), and "Outlander" for the Super Nintendo (SNES) and also the Sega Genesis (I think the Genesis is known as the "Mega Drive" in some market areas; but then again I'm not sure that the game was released in those areas.)

"Mad Max" is a pretty straightforward car shoot-em-up game, not very strategic. "Outlander" is more strategic, with car upgrades and towns to explore, but I think it's also a linear console game, more or less.

There's a story behind Outlander, though. As I understand it, the game was supposed to be an adaptation of "The Road Warrior"; but licencing was either not obtained, or lost, so the game has tons of Road Warrior elements (An obviously Australian black ford, which you can fit with a blower, a double-barreled shotgun, mohawk bikers, and, most notably, guys flying about in Gyrocopters. The latter are enemies, though.) So what we have is a game that is "The Road Warrior" in all but name.

I liked third (TDR 2000) and I see no point why everybody hates it. First is the best thought..

Just the same what i think. First was excellent, i played not only singleplayer, but also multiplayer and it was great 8) But with TDR there was some problems - singleplayer missions was too hard for me, but in multiplayer there were some bugs, which spoiled it :? But anywayz, TDR was good ;)

Never really got into the interstate games, only thing like that i can think of is a MMO Car combat game that was announced at E3 i think, but not much has been released about it yet, tough it looks from the press releases and stuff that their heart is in the right place.

The game you are thinking of, if I am not mistaken, has been released. The game is called Auto Assault and here is the link to its website:

http://www.autoassault.com

I have not played it but if any of you have please let me know what you think about it.

Edit: Crap, my bad, I did not realize Gobias bumped an old thread. I am tired and was not paying attention to the dates. *moves out of Roshambos way* I guess I will leave this post here so you know the game was released.

i like post apoc driving games too !
carma 3 wasn t bad but it was waaaaaay worst than carmageddon 2 (in carma 3 physic engine probably changed as well as music no longer from iron maiden, i am no heavy metal fan but surely to play a destroy game like carma 2 they were cool)
in carmageddon 2 you did sooo many mad things that in carma 3 youy were just able to do after you had an uber speedy car that could jump high, but carma 2 was definetly more fun)

pimp my PA car!

*sigh*

why does everything have to be ugly & shiny? where did graphic artists loose their fucking sense of style?
