So I finally got started on a new game and it`s awesome playing Fallout 2 as it was meant to be or atleast with no bugs. It doesnt even bother me that I had to start a whole new game after installing this patch eventhough the game was half way through...

Excellent work and many thanks for improving the game :D

Hey killap,

Great job on this latest patch! :)

Now that this "final" patch is out, will you be finally releasing your source SSL files as well? :D

Hi there.

I've just had a recent hankering for Fallout 2 (yes, it does have a lot to do with the teaser.. :) ) and I decided I would get the funkiest looking update patch to make the game all nice and playable. It's been great until I've reached Klamath - and when I walk to the bottom of Klamath (green bit at the bottom of the downtown area) it crashes with the Windows Error noise. I can't see what the problem is, as the screen goes black and the only way to save my computer is to Task Manage Fallout away. I've also noticed that it is taking up a whopping 500 meg of ram when I kill it.

Any thoughts? I'm using the latest patch from this thread.

Allan.

@muncher666: Um, you said that you were using the latest version of killap's patch, right? Sounds like you have another patch also installed, the 1.05 unofficial patch, in which this was a very common problem. Killap's patch is not meant to work with other patches/mods.
If I am mistaken and you don't have anything else installed, then your best bet may be to simply start over, meaning uninstall your current game, then reinstall it as well as killap's patch. Make sure, too, that the proto files are set to read-only, just in case.

I haven't installed any other patches. At all. Should I have? Also, could this be a result of me installing it on top of the wrong version (I assumed my copy was a US copy, I got it off of eBay, but maybe it's a UK copy?)?

Allan.

Its a UK version if you see no children ingame. If that is the case, don't worry, you just need to get the art files for the kids and the problem will be solved.
A UK version with the Kid art added (the files are downloadable from this server) works just the same as the US version.

Right, that solves it. Still got the problem though, even after install. What would the problem script/file be? It'd be nifty if there was only a small map file or something I had to replace.

I can be more helpful now, it crashes when I head into trapper town.

Allan.

This is indeed distressing. I didn't touch anything there and yet I too get this crash. In my test runs I always check that going to towns does not cause any crashes but I don't always check EVERY area of the towns. I shall look into this ASAP. Sorry for this bug guys. :(

BUG in NCR after completing Vault 15 quest!! (KILLAP PATCH)

Hi there!
I have this BIG bug (BIG because preventing me from loads of xps and cash...), after:
- taking the parts from vault 15
- killing the khans
- making the deal between the squatters and NCR
- having the holodisk proving the presence of a spy
it's impossible to get my reward in president Tandi building.
I talk to Gunther who asks me if i did the Vault 15 quest, when I answer yes he opens me Tandi's door, then I tell Tandi about everything (deal, killed khans, parts and spy) who sends me to Gunther to collect my reward.
BUT, when I talk to him he just asks me why i am back so soon and that's it. If I talk to him again, the same cycle happens again:
- he asks me if I finish the Vault 15 quest
- I answer yes so he opens me Tandi's door
- and then it is also the same dialogue with Tandi...
SO NO XPs and NO CASH!! And above no psychological satisfaction of having finished this quest!!
It was so cool to play again to Fallout with Killap patch after all the bugs preventing me to want to finish it several years ago but now, even if it is not crucial, there is this nasty bug not very far from the end. Could anyone help me? I would be very grateful.
P.S.: the Killap patch I installed is the one Last updated on 11/25/2006

I don't mean to upset, but I am glad that it wasn't something I did, as I was going insane wondering what on earth I did. :)

Good luck with the fixing, hope all goes well.

Allan.

FIXED!

Found the issue. Was due to something I had been working on with my expansion pack. I greatly apologize for not having caught this one. All you need to do is download this map file. Since you were never able to enter the downtown area, this should not pose a problem and you most recent save should work just fine.

Here is the link to the map:
map fix

Just extract this file and copy the map to your Fallout 2 maps folder. (and replace the bad one there.)

I had originally thought that the issue was due to me editing the protos for Slim so one can no longer steal from him (and get the Trapper Town key so easily) This was not the issues, however, but it did show me that one could STILL steal from him. Thus, I have a new script for him up as well. I made a similar change to Festus in Gecko and thus I too had to make a new script. Thus I no longer prevent stealing from the protos but rather do it through the scripts. Here are the new scripts for Festus, Slim, and the jail guard in Broken Hills.

Yes I will in fact. Should do so in a few days.

Interesting... I have never seen/heard this one before. Could you provide me with a save game with which I could take a look at.

Seems like another graphics glitch. Just the way things are setup in the game. No way I could fix that. Thanks for the post though and keep your eyes peeled for other issues.

Here`s something a bit more alarming: http://img483.imageshack.us/img483/680/fallout2rr0.jpg It was night so sorry about picture being dark...

Upon travelling back to The Den from Vault City and getting the car up and running, I encountered this freakish incident: If I travel to Gecko with the car, Lenny immediately gets hostile and says the above. All of the sudden he starts hating me?!?

This didnt happen when I traveled by foot to Gecko (before getting the car). I`ll try avoid this by walking to Gecko from Vault City... Edit* This happens whether I walk or drive back to Gecko. Lenny gets angry with me and starts shooting. This doesnt happen in any other town.

Also: It says the car is out of fuel when it isnt! There`s atleast 75% juice still left in the damn thing?

Sure, but how do I do that? Can I just copy the X:\Fallout2\Data\Savegames\Slot x and send it to you?

Yes just zip/rar up the entire Slot X folder and send it to me. (through e-mail) Just use the address from the readme.

I think that was also something I fixed. I would have to go back and check. I know for sure that Buck had this problem, I don't remember if Chuck did as well.

The problem is that the node that points to nodes 951 and 981 has them mixed up, so it seems unlikely you'd have fixed one but not the other.

Well I chose 295 since I didn't want to remove the opportunity for the player to raise his/her skill in melee. Since the original devs never set a skill max on learning from him I just went ahead and made it 296 since he gives you +5 in Melee.

Aha, I assumed the fix was that you still got the training but he just didn't comment as unfavourably on your current technique. But what exactly is the "bug" if not the absurdity that he'd say such a thing even if you're much better than he is? How is this a "fix" if it only comes into play in extremely unlikely circumstances, but still happens if you have, say, 200% or 250%? In that case it even seems more reasonable not to change it at all, but assume Li'l Jesus is so set in his own technique that he'd say you're doing it wrong no matter how good you really are. Or to have a player option that opens if you have 101% or more, where you give him some appropriate comeback but still challenge him to teach you something, written as to lead into the node where you talk about payment - an aesthetic fix, not a functional one.

Wow, I didn't know you had a rock collecting map. I just downloaded it and quickly tested it out. It's pretty fun. I shall definitely include it in my expansion. It may not be a special encounter (though it could) but rather you find the location through other means.

Well, let me know when it's time to talk about the details of modifying and converting it. It has some funny one-liners and references in it, so I'd love for it to see more play. :)
