Anyone else has this problem?

LordOfTheWasteland

First time out of the vault
Well the thing is that i'm playing the Ultimate Edition of NV on PS3 and it has MASSIVE BUGS, i already have 12MB in this charecter (longest one i've ever had since it's the first time i play with the DLCs), i've played like 5 times before and i know it has some bugs when you're more advanced in the game, but this time is ridiculous. I'm doing everything i can before starting playing the last DLC, Lonesome Road, and have to buy just a few unique weapons from the Gun Runners (GRA), but i can't play more than 10 minutes before the game freezes and i have to turn off the console and start over again from my last save or checkpoint. This mostly happens when i'm out in the desert or something, not when i'm inside a building or in the DLCs. Is there any way to fix this problem? This just happens on PS3? Please answer me if this can be fixed i would be muuuuch apreciated :) such a great game with so many bugs makes me mad...

The PS3 versions of all Bethesda games (I know New Vegas wasn't developed by them, but it uses the same engine) are all pretty bad. If you must play on console the 360 is the closest it gets to stable. Otherwise, PC master race forever.

It's supposedly caused by the save file overbloating or something. The more stuff you do the more it has to register, PS3 version of Skyrim got the worst of it out all Bethesda titles from what I've read.

I'm on XBox360 and I have very few issues since all the latest patches... aside from the occasional crash here and there. No sweat.

As others have already stated, PS3 is apparently a nightmare for whatever reason.

In the console version there are certain areas that are more prone to creating crashes, going into VATS in fiend territory with a large save file crashes a lot for whatever reason. Also entering one area that triggers an autosave and then entering another while the first autosave isn't finished frequently crashes and corrupts the autosave.

But the real problem is just that the PS3 has the worst memory situation of the various platforms that play New Vegas. To be specific, the 360 has 512MB of memory that can be devoted either to graphics or system as needed, whereas the PS3 has 256MB of memory devoted to graphics and 256MB devoted to system. This is a problem because if the developer only needs 100MB of to make the graphics look right in one situation, the Xbox 360 version will have 412MB of memory for system (including OS) things and the PS3 version will have only 256MB of memory for system (including OS). The problem is compounded further when you notice that the PS3 has a larger memory footprint (52MB) for the system resources that are always running in the background (guide button, friends list, chat, whatever.) than the 360 (32MB.)

So trying to play any Bethesda engine game on the PS3 can be a problem when those databases get big, since it's trying to do all that DB management in 202MB of system memory. IIRC Skyrim also ran poorly on the PS3.

Thank you guys, i had this problem with Fallout 3 and Skyrim too, but with NV is a Nightmare. I didn't have any problem with Oblivion though, i guess Betheseda games perform too poorly on PS3 :( i just ended the quest Bleed Me Dry and it's the last one that was left to do. The other thing that i'm going to do is to annihilate all the Legionaries in The Fort with Boone, and then i'll start Lonesome Road, i hope it's difficult because i just slayed the Legendary Deathclaw with 2 sneaky shoots with a Antimaterial Rifle full moded and a Plasma Mine, one shot in the leg (so he's not so fast), he follows me, touch the mine so he's cripped now, and another shot in the head and the "most powerful creature in the westland" is murdered. Easy peasy (i'm playing very hard-hardcore). My character is level 50 and have all his stats in 100, he's basically a God... or something better. I hope i can buy a PS4 soon, i need Fallout 4 in my life...

FWIW, "Bleed Me Dry" probably isn't worth it. It makes the most sense as a quest you pick up really early and you complete as you go on your travels through the wastes, but in the endgame it just gives you a weapon you probably don't want. Do it if you need to see it to the end, but it really feels like a quest that was designed during a phase in the game where the player was expected to visit Westside earlier (instead of the final intended path where you go basically go counterclockwise and would hit up Westside last.)

Yeah i know but i almost always left that quest days before the final battle of Hoover Dam because i think it's the most difficult mission outside the DLCs in the normal game (if you go to Dead Wind Cavern instead of Quarry Junction)... A cave full of deathclaws, what is more challenging? a mother deathclaw which was a piece of paper with my Saturnite Fist Super-Heated + Pyromantic perk... it's the first character that i use with unarmed weaponds and meele in a courier, i never thought i was going to be able to destroy deathclaws like if they were little children on Very Hard, i feel sorry for them xD with 100 on sneak (and all of the other stats) and a full moded Antimaterial Rifle Dead Wind Caverns is a cake walk. It's my favorite weapon on the game just under the Holorifle perhaps, but i only use that thing with deathclaws for sneaky shots in the head. Now that i have all the most powerful weapons on the game (besides the ones in LR) i always carry with me Maria (+ Grunt perk + Thought You Died) for the weakest enemies (31 of damage per bullet +100 in Guns), All American for regular enemies in long-mid distances, the full moded Holorifle for "decent folk" in long-mid range, Christine's COS Silended Rifle when i need to be more sneaky than the usual, Lil' Devil as my normal handgun, 12mm Silenced Pistol for close range sneaky operations (I have The Professional perk), Saturnite Fist Super-Heated for close range = 115 of damage per very... VERY fast and deadly punchs (Slayer perk + Pyromantic + Piercing Skrike + Better Criticals + TYD + All the 3 movements learned from Ranger Andy, Veronica and Lucius)... that thing is INCREDIBLY OP, you just have to start spamming R1 and everything that stands in your ways is dead. Even deathclaws. Trail Caravine with a scope just because i love to shoot it (idk if there's an unique version for this .44 weapon), Sonic Emitter - Opera Singer/Revelation for robots, Hunting Revolver (GRA) full moded... just in case... 91 of damage per bullet (+ Cowboy perk), Anabelle for big groups of decent enemies, but i only used it once against the Cazadores found in Bleed Me Dry, i killed a bunch of them with that thing and only 2 cazadores were left after i used it once, almost dead too... i have all the 3 ranks for the Demolition perk so explosives are incredibly powerful with my "mighty courier", just a plasma grenade does 455 of damage, while a frag grenade does 317 of damage (+ Grunt perk) i always carry with me at least 5 of these two types of grenade, Anabelle = 705 of damage, and Esther (i don't carry it with me) it does more than 2.200 of damage i think it was, but i never use these big weapons in the game, just for collection, i just used it once against anything just to see how big the explosion was... i died in the act xD ... i feel sorry for whatever i'll find in the Lonesome Road LOL.
