Anyone up for some Doom?

I'm playing it right now, it's alright. Feels like a slower/faster version of call of duty and the last one I played was MW2 many many years ago.
Everyone moves too fast for my liking and (maybe it's my settings) but mouse controls feel just way too slow compared to the movement. The character customization is alright, someone could spend a great deal of time customizing when they get to a high level. The particle cannon seems a little unbalanced as well, making one shots on just about everything luckily not many people have it so it's not that much of an issue. The same two maps for deathmatch is annoying but understandable because it is a beta and they WANT you to buy the full version so you can get the rest of the maps. OH and text chat, that seems to be lacking and just about every multiplayer game has text chat but voice chat (ew) is in the game.

Yeah... thats what I thought too. It feels like a mix of CoD and maybe Quake. I like the customizations, it gives more flavor to the game but I hate the leveling up and XP shit. It think it's pointless in arena games. And also what dumbass thought it would be a good idea to put the voice chat key on LShift(because people think its the sprint key or smth)

Anyway if anyone wants to play a match or two add me on steam http://steamcommunity.com/id/RayRay94/

Another thing, they don't even support my screen resolution which is total bullshit. Now granted my screen resolution is an odd ball 1360X768 but they support 1366X768 which is horse shit. Also when I started up the game the video setting for my resolution (using 1366X768 and borderless) it went right back to the default which is like 1920X1080 which looks like absolute shit on my screen.

I hate the leveling up and XP shit.
Same I have played less than an hour (around 40 or so minutes) and I think I am around level 6 or so. The first match I played I got to level 3, so balance is off in that department.

EDIT: after looking it does seem to have text chat. Guess no one uses it.

I remeber saying this one would suck but i loved all the other Doom games. "Well this is how the original was so if you hate this you hate the old Doom games!" So apperantly the old Doom games are shit :P

I've been seeing that in the reviews on steam, the positive ones at least. Never played much of the old ones, only 2 because I had that for ps1 back in the day, so I can't compare much to the old ones. This game though almost seems confused on what it wants to be, it wants to be an arena shooter with the pick ups and then it wants to be a call of duty/halo clone with levels and all that.

Is this game built on a mutated gamebyro engine?
more like from the brain of behind today virtual reality. also known as john carmack and his id tech engine.
gamebyro doesnt use mega texture as far i remember,
and id tech is very performance friendly to each previous generation console

No it is not, it's built using iD Tech 5 engine. The same engine to power Wolfenstein: The New Order and The Old Blood. As eissa said it uses mega textures which are huge textures that try to prevent duplicate set pieces and it does a pretty good job at it, only real disadvantage to going that route is the huge download size, TNO is around 50GB if I remember right.

actually it is id tech 6, which the dev insist it is very different than previous generation. it's not locked at 60 fps and texture popping were fixed.

dishonored 2 will using the modified id tech 6, and it looks awesome

Is it 6 now? Guess I'm behind on the numbers then. From what I know the Doom beta is locked to 60 fps on PC but will be unlocked once the game releases according to the tweet that was sent out.

I watched some let's play of the beta, since I'm only interested in the single player, and pretty much everyone has said it's too much Halo and COD, and not enough DOOM. I'll still pick it up on a Steam sale, but it doesn't seem I'm missing anything in the multiplayer.

For some reason something bugs me about how the game looks and moves. It looks kind of bright and plastic like, and the combat flowy, slow. Of course this is all from a few viewings on youtube of online multiplayer games, so maybe just wrong initial impressions.

Feels like i'm one of the few who loved Doom 3..

It is a console game in the same way Fallout 4 is a console game so i will stay far away from it.

Seems Zenimax has given standing orders to all it's subsidiaries to simply take things from other popular games and pop them into their IP's.
