AoE III Demo

There are a mix of archers, swordsmen, musketeers and cannons because all those units were pretty much used at this time. The guns are less accurate and use longer time to re-load then archers, but do more damage. That's why both were used.

Age of Empires 3 are by the way the first RTS game with fully implanted physics engine.

I would recommend checking out the two links below if you don't know too much about the game. :)

I guess it's a shame that that "fully implanted physics engine" doesn't manifest itself during the demo. At least, to any point more than any other recent 3D RTS I can remember. I think the physics of Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War (even the demo, to make it a fair comparison) looked more impressive.

Err... you are aware that the time-frame of the demo is the Mexican-American war?

Includes the Mexican American war, smartie. It's timeframe is 350 years long, from 1490 to 1870 (approx). Play the skirmish.

is original age of empires any good?

saw it at a local wal-mart and was wondering if it was any good to pick up for $10.

liked dark reign 1 and 2 a lot, dungeon keeper 1 and 2 a lot, warcraft 1 and 2

hated seven kingdoms and TA kingdoms.

problem is i dont have a great comp... old 266 FSB 1.4 ghz amd with a geforce 4 mx 400 vid card and 512 ddr ram. at least i have scsi tho.

That ought to be enough for Age of Mythology.

You have SCSI on such a lame computer? Pffft...

YEah, im not sure what it is with this demo but it wont run at all on my sys. I guess I will just have to wait for the real dea.

I do like the "Card" idea for the Home Cities, which lends a kind of persistance to mulitplayer games. Its still essentially the same as the first one from what I've seen though.

yeah go for Age of Mythology+(EXPANSION: Titans) if you want a newer one Wes Dude

I'd actually suggest Age of Empires II over that one. I found Mythology quite a letdown, personally.

And Myth II was the first RTS with a physics engine, if memory serves. It's nice in AOE III, but hardly something that impacts the gameplay.

when i upgraded this computer in late 2000 it wasnt a lame computer and i have been running SCSI since early 99.

plus SCSI is one of the few reasons my computer performs anything worthwhile :)
