Apple release iPad tablet

No USB support? No built-in camera or microphone? No SD card slot? No ethernet port? Mono sound? No headphone jack? No Flash support? iPhone OS, meaning that I have to use the app store and can't multitask? Have to pay an extra $130 for 3G? $500 for the 16gb model without 3G?

Fuck this thing, for real.

you are forgetting that it is Apple...

Apples way, or the highway bitch!

YOU WILL BUY THIS AND YOU WILL LOVE IT!

Looks like something i would never buy. Come to think of it, mostly everything from apple looks like something i would never buy.

Well, this version is a piece of crap. However, like every other one of their products, they slowly make it better and better with future generations. And you have to buy each and every generation when it comes out, thus they make lots of money and remain successful.

So Apple's customer service and secondary care sucks. Doesn't mean the product is crap.
The iPod was crap for the first few generations (consistently failed in 18-24 months). You're right though, one product line does not mean that all of their products are crap. That said, their iron fist management of what can and cannot be used on their products does create issues. I also question the pricing due to Apple's pricing history, particularly in their "iP"roducts.

No USB support?
If the NPR report I heard on it is correct, it does have USB ports and you can plug a keyboard into it.

What I'm sure is going to annoy me the most is people talking about how new and innovative it is despite the actual age of the technology. I still don't see the problem that this solves but I'm sure that it will do reasonably well with Apple's marketing behind it (though I heard that their stock dropped when they showed it off).

Well, it's no big news that Apple overprices their products. One need but compare them with equivalent products from other companies. That's how they make money - build hype on their overpriced products so that the people are willing to pay extra $$ for "fashion sense".

Ok, give me an equivalent Product for a MacBook Pro 13/17...

I dunno, pretty much any laptop from any other company with similar specs costs half the Apple price or less? As a regular customer w/o any special needs, I'd go for the one with the lesser price.

Ah yes, the carrot and stick business model. Buy the second-generation iPad! It has a camera this time! Apple innovates again!

Also, I wonder how DOES it connect to a PC?? The specs page says it can charge from a PC USB, but how does it connect there?
It doesn't have any USB ports but it does have support for USB through a proprietary connector - the same one that you use to connect it to a keyboard or whathaveyou, very similar to how iPods work. I don't doubt that it will come with a cable, so that's not much of an issue. Except that you wouldn't be able to plug in a flash drive or mouse. There is bluetooth support for things like mice, at least.

So, I was wrong - USB support, but no standard ports.

What a fucking nightmare. Something this size with the functions it's supposed to have should have at least two if not four USB ports. I'm not really surprised that Apple is making you go through their proprietary port, but it sucks. Speaking of which, I assume it only has one port and I just read that not only does it look like an iPhone, it uses the iPhone OS (I'm sure a derivation thereof).

Yeah, hence no real multitasking and having to rely on the app store for programs. Unless you jailbreak it or whatever. Funny thing about the presentation is that Jobs derided netbooks as slow (pretty true) having low-quality displays (my Samsung NC10 disagrees) and being limited to "PC software."

PC software is a bad thing now. Yes, being able to use any media player I want is fucking horrendous. How can I possibly live with being able to play any video or audio format I wish? My own choice of web browser? Oh fuck me. I can even choose my own OS and multitask? brb hanging self

Apple have made very good products and I really respect how they've shaken the PMP and smartphone market in big ways, but this thing is pretty close to the proverbial "turd in a shiny plastic box" anti-Apple folk have been talking about.
