Assuming IPLY made F3..

First time out of the vault
I realize there is a snowball's chance in hell F3 will get made by IPLY (if at all)

but the question is, if it was made by interplay, do you think it'd even be any good? I mean, they aren't on the top 10 list of game devs in my book.

If it was made by IPLY of the old - yes. They used to be making kick-ass games. If it's IPLY as we know it today - no way.

If, and I say if very cautiously, Interplay survives the current debacle, it will be a completely different company. I don't know if Herve Caen will still be around, due to the fact that he is mostly to blame for the current situation, and he very well could be arrested due to the new investigation into Interplay. If such things occured, then Interplay has a slim chance of being outfitted with competent new people.

However, I can't see that happening.

What I can see is a cool company like Troika getting the Fallout license and making a good Fallout 3.

I still don't know what would be worse. No Fallout 3 or a bad Fallout 3 that isn't as good as the orginals. Unfortunately, both of these scenarios are very likely.

Is this the right forum for this?

so what's the chance IPLY will sell the rights to Fallout 3? I'm sure there is SOME decent company that would take it, and IPLY could use all the money it can get

Getting? I bet they'd have to cough up more dough than they have.

I agree with Troika, though, no doubt about that. But recently, I've been thinking that maybe it would be best if Troika just came up with their own post-apocalyptic setting and game (weren't there rumours about that anyway?). That way the license would be their's and they wouldn't have to beg and pay those fucktards at IPLY.

Maybe we should learn to be glad with what we have: Fallout and Fallout 2. I honestly can't see a sequel being made today that wouldn't somehow fuck up the setting, the atmosphere, the gameplay and so on. You already know how I feel about a Fallout 3 in 3D (bwah!). The Van Buren screenshots didn't work for me, I'm sorry. They looked more like FOT, imo.

You want to know what I think: Arcanum (and the engine of Arcanum) should have been Fallout 3. It's the only game I know of that comes close to Fallout. But who will want to use a 2D engine in 2004, 2005, 2006...? No one, of course.

As for IPLY still making Fallout 3? Nah. Back in the nineties, yeah. With the same people who crafted the first games, sure. But not now. I say: bury the dreams. I say: give Troika (and maybe Obsidian) some time to come up with a new post-apocalyptic series (it'll happen sooner or later, I'm sure). They have the talent.

i agree, actually i think FOT looked even more like fallout

well if Interplay dies and dissolves...

what happens to their intellectual property? I would assume a dead company's stuff would be up for grabs at a very low (comparitively) price

Who would you pay to?
Besides, even orphaned IP is still protected by statutory damages clause in copyright infringement legislation.

Then again, I haven't followed up on the latest orphaned IP-related laws and hearings, so I may be wrong here.
