Audio Players

There are lots of media players out there for download and stuff nowadays, and I need some help in trying to find the best one. What do you think is the best? I've just been using the Musicmatch Jukebox that came on my Dell, but its unbearably slow to start up and run, and is prone to crash a lot. I definitely need a change. I was just wondering what everyone thinks is the best one available.

I use Winamp 5 classic skin.

It's practical, useful, you can use it to audio and video, has a lot of skins and plug-ins to download, so you can customize it to your choice (like all kinds of ripping, for example)

Also, this new version has something that I think it's extremely useful: a playlist library that helps you surf through all your media files and, connecting to the site in the internet, provides info and background to what you're listening/watching to.

i use 0ld sk00l winamp 2.91 (of course with the leet fallout skin)

doesnt need much resources and it does anything a musicplayer is supposed to do

What I like about Winamp 5 is that I have a skin that makes a very small useful minimode, which is about the height of the titlebar of a window, and halfway across the top of my desktop. its neat, gives me all the functionality to play music, and never crashes.

I use BS Player only for videos, and it's great for that, since I can easly apply subtitles in my movies. But for audio I still think Winamp 5 is the best. And with the classical skin it takes up minimum resources.

I've been using WinAmp for many years now. Prior to that I was using an old player called Sonique. I'm not sure if that one's even being made anymore. And prior to that, I used a DOS-based player with GUI that came with my old Sound Blaster 16 sound card (which I had purchased in 1994...). Mind you, that was long before MP3 was even invented.

Ah, good old days...

I still remember the first track I listened to under WinAmp. It was the soundtrack from System Shock 2, released while the game was still in development.

What was the topic of this thread, anyway? Oh, right, players. I recommend WinAmp. It's a legend among players.

Winamp5 actually works on my laptop, but I have no reason to use anything other than Windows media player.

Don't get me wrong, internet T.V. rules if you can get a connection. It's just that WMP has a great mini mode, and can actually burn a CD as fast as my drive will allow.

Uninstall it as soon as you can, it's really a worthless piece of software. Winamp 2.9 or 5 is the way to go.

Winamp5 classic skin. Rules.

I used to use my own player, but for some reason the windows API sucks major donkey balls, meaning a lot of things could go wrong.

Exactly what i do too, for the same reasons.

Sonique is still around, although i stoped using it a couple of years ago. I use Intervideo DVD4 for DVDs.

I use WinAmp 2.8. Basic skin.

Why do people use Winamp 2.9?

Is it a different type of player, or just older?

Older, before they started using too much crap. WinAmp pre-3 just loads like a bitch and then plays the music again, much like a bitch. Don't like all these new-fangled thingamajigs.

If you use Winamp 5, minimum install and the classic skin you'll get the same effect, though.

Exactly. Why break something that isn't broken? I see no reason to upgrade to another version or change. It's easy on my resources and the playback is still great. I don't care about all those extra gadgets, I just want to listen to music.

Winamp 2.90 has worked very well for me.
