Auto Assault Previewed at IGN

IGN has previewed the Post-Apocalyptic Massively Multiplayer Action Game (as Scott Brown, President of NetDevil describes it) Auto Assault. IGN is unfailingly optimistic about the game, though the review causes one to wonder about all these 'unique' features.
The devs are defining a new genre of MMO play by making use of action genre gameplay. With a far-out futuristic setting and a plot that makes Mad Max sound like a bedtime story, they recognize that both companies are taking a great risk entering the industry's most highly volatile and fiercely competitive market segment. They are gambling that what gamers the world round are saying is the honest truth, that they are ready for something different, original, and fun.
Link: Auto Assault Preview at IGN

How is an action focussed MMORPG different from any other MMORPG? If you take away the inter-player roleplaying most MMORPGs ARE about action (well, and crafting).

At least MMAG is a better acronym than XORG.

More sensible anyway. If it's action focussed, it's not an RPG, so it'd have to be a XOAG (pronounced nearly the same by most American nevertheless).

Yes, perhaps his statement was something of a veiled insult thrown towards other developers?
At any rate, it's probably a better description than either MMORPG or XORG.

I wish they could be simply called "online rpg's" or "online action" not using all these lame acronyms as a ploy to increase marketability.

Maybe the fitting music genre for such a game would be
Super-Apocalyptic-Cyber-Industrial-Metal...8)

No joke, there is really a genre called like this.

THAT is exactly why I don't bother learning genre names.
