We haven't covered post-apocalyptic bash'm-drive'm Auto Assault in a while. And it looks like we won't anymore:<blockquote>NOTICE: Today NCsoft is announcing that it will be closing down service for Auto Assault at the end of the summer. The service will close at midnight on August 31, 2007. As of today, any player currently in the service with an active billed account will not be billed again. If players have previously purchased time via multi-month billing or time cards that extends their service past July 31, NCsoft will reconcile these accounts appropriately. There will be more announcements coming soon regarding the shut down of Auto Assault and its impact on current accounts.</blockquote>Link: Auto Assault website.

I never got the idea that vehicle-only MMOs ever really work. I remember EA's ship-only space MMO, Earth & Beyond fell to a similar fate.

Guess players just like to create characters.

well, i considered the graphics as really aged, and the gameplay looked a bit dull, so i didn't mind anymore, and many others probably, too
 
Save Auto Assault Campaign!

AA boasted a dual system with vehicles AND character creation for use in towns and urban areas.

AA did not garner the required attention because of an early release and multitude of bugs then, but following a year many of these issues were resolved but the bad karma remained.

This is one of the few, if not only, post apocalyptic MMO titles out there and it requires support from all of you whether you played it or not.

Don't let this PO title slip and die like EnB, and support it through a couple of petitions aimed at salvaging this game by NetDevil:

On my last foray into that other 'Heart Of Darkness',
the jungle of retail square footage, mini malls, stripped malls and island store fronts,

(when?.... last week or so when doing the hunter gather gig for the July Issue of GI, at the Micro Center, NO GI!),

(time and space lag due to real time and space logistics--the kick and roll delivery of material objects [magazines] to disparate geographical locals),

(GI speared at chain island store front, recall clerk more interested in Silent Shock 2's reincarnation as Bioshock. ..... wonder if Bioshock will get the 'Gothic 3 suxs treatment' by Bethesda's pwned press boys?),

so at this (other) chain island storefront --- last week,

I saw,

in the bargain bin, Dark Age Of Camelot with a series of mark down stickers ... then $1.99,

and Auto Assault.

Auto Assault was $9.99? Less? Less now with the News of site shut down?

If I would have thought it important I would have let y'all know Auto Assault was in the bargain bin .... last week.

Trust me like y'all would your only friend, that imaginary one -----Game-spot-spy.

If the purchase of the box gets one in for some period of time ... till August 30,
those who wish to try this before it ... dies?... hurry to your favorite bargain bin.

Hunter gathers of the bargain bin clan! A cheap trial of a matured MMO ... may be possible.

And.

A surge of prurient interest might assist Sigoya's cause.

Interesting how my memory holds System Shock and Silent Storm in the same domain.

Alphabetical ain't the only criteria in that corral-ing.

I did the beta of this game.

Well if you try playing this MMO with out any preconceptions about what a post apoc world should be. Then this game is for you.

If you go in expecting Fallout and Mad Max combined like I did, your only going to hurt yourself when you play the result.

Imagine the classic car arcade-game SpyHunter, then make it a free-roaming world, then add in an alien touch. You Got Auto Assault. -yawn

Glad its gone. They need to throw out the entire thing and start from scratch.
