I'm posting this...<blockquote>Senior Programmer
Tired of coding the same stuff day in and day out? Do varied tasks and independent work sound appealing? If so, we have the job for you.
Interplay is looking for a talented and experienced programmer to manage and maintain assets of Interplay’s extensive library of games. The ideal candidate will have a broad programming background, with the ability to work fluidly in existing codebases. Flexibility over a variety of tasks and platforms is a must. This position will be self directed and requires maturity and responsibility.</blockquote>Not out of too much interest, but because for the Interplay-watchers out there, the "office" address is still Beverly Hills 90210, Herve's house. So despite speculation to the contrary, Interplay has not made the planned move to the OC yet (why am I listing teen show names as places of residence, here?).

Yeah, being a cpp dev (junior, but still) i knida know that ;)
I was curious bout 'trong' thing more.

One would think that job offers by *cough* serious *cough* companies get proof read ... or at least spellchecked

"Interplay is looking for one guy to do the job of several in order to make sense of our mess. Who left these boxes here ? What happened to that wall ? Where are we, again ?"

Who seriously would want to be a programmer anyway? Honestly. Coding has to be the worst part/job of making games. You sit there for hours and do what the "designer" tells you to do. Doesn't sound like much fun to me.

To me this ad kinda sounds like, "We need a programmer... Anybody? Please?.. We'll let you do what you want. How does that sound?"

Meh, Programming can be fun, why do carpenters do what they do, they have to be told what to build and all.

It's just a method of creating something, at least that's what it is for me, figuring out logic puzzles and trying to make something work as best as I can, it doesn't really matter what they ask for, it's a matter of if it'll be fun to find the answer, and that's usually yes at this point.

This description is for a maintainance programmer, whose job it is to fix bugs in existing code. This is not a job writing new code or developing new software. Been there, done that, glad it's over.

yeah ...maybe someone should send them an email : "trong ain't a word i have heard from ! ...ENGLISH MOTHER FUCKERS ! DO YOU SPEAK IT !?"

I strongly suspect the Fallout engine source code, much like the GURPS alpha bit, is "in a box somewhere", and effectively lost to history.

The only ones in any position to do anything about it is Bethesda. And they're not going to.

* Maintain Interplay's library of code assets and associated materials (artwork, videos, etc)

* Update existing code to the latest compatibility standards (mainly XP/Vista, possibly Mac OSX)

* Implement 3rd party DRM software to make the titles available via download

* Maintain the customer service patch library and keep support information current

Ok, so Freespace, crappy Star Trek games, BG/ID et al, MDK, Descent? What titles does Interplay actually own that would be worth the (financial) trouble of updating them for digital distribution?

While I'd of course be thrilled if Kabuto would finally get the audience it always deserved, I don't really see the Interplay backcatalogue as a being that big of a money maker.

Or is there some crazy masterplan to create a gametap/steam/stradock rival, and they are just hiring someone to work on the old titles as a throwaway?

Interplay still holds the rights to sales of Fallout 1, 2, Tactics and BoS.

They're re-released a lot, they could just do it again for digital download. Not sure if many of their other titles would have much interest. Hell, you can download Earthworm: Jim and old platformers like it adapted to the PC for free.

Only the truely foolish would work for Herve.

Get this as a stellar example of what a jerk he is.
Herve filed a false 1099 with the IRS in an attempt to cause me to pay more taxes on income I never received. Now, I have to fight with the IRS to make them see this as a false, and vindictive act for forcing sphincter-boy to pay up on his lawsuits.
