Besides video games, what other games do you play?

Iago

First time out of the vault
personally I'm really fond of board games like Caylus, Puerto Rico, the old but still great Full Metal Planete or Funkenschlag. I also enjoy card games such as French Tarot, Poker and Bridge, especially bridge. I started playing it recently but it's really interesting and the random factor is almost reduced to nothing. A beginer can't defeat a confirmed player.
And lastly there is a very fun game I like that has no name I'm aware of. You need two teams. Each player writes down on little pieces of paper anything that crosses his/her mind. When it's done you gather the pieces of paper in a bowl of some sort and then a member of the first team has a definite amount of time, one minute for instance, to make his/her teammates guess the most of what was written down. When the minute is done, the second team does the same thing and you go back and forth between teams until there are no pieces of paper left. It's really fun after a few drinks.

Is Texas hold 'em Poker considered a game or a sport? That's the only non-video game I can think of (although I mostly play virtually).

During High School before all my close friends moved all over the place we used to have weekly Axis & Allies sessions. Had enough house rules to write a source book over, the entire game was pretty much redone for our liking.

Very fun board game.

Do soccer and gym count? Other than that....no. I don't really have anyone willing to play such games, my friends and family were always rather uninterested in such stuff.

Risk and Monopoly on occasion. I sometimes play Magic if I meet someone who's into it and is willing to give me a deck ;)

I also love that other game, I forget the name, but the basic premise is to read a bunch of stuff then type many thousands of words and try to get the first letter of the alphabet so that people want to give you money later. I am currently spending most of my life playing that one.

I play a similar game, that consists of losing 5 years of your life working your ass off 10 to 12 hours a day in a realistic environment, the goal being to get an important piece of paper.
Then I heard you get access to level two, where the gameplay is more-or-less the same, with less co-op and without the reward at the end.

I also played Magic for a few years, and some board games : Dune, Fief, Mediterannée.

Poker, other card games, Machiavelli, Warhammer on occasion.

Ugh Machiavelli.

I don't play much, I don't like board games and shit. And no gym doesn't count.

So that leaves the MERP sessions about once a month I guess.

Ahh, reminds me of this btw:

Poker( not as much any more), Chinese chess, a different version of Go(can't remember what's it called), and etc. I want to learn Go proper, but that requires formal tutoring, sigh.

I love playing strategic board games, although I rarely do since the people I play those with are living far away now.

I used to play some p&p rpg's too, and a lot of M:TG and similar stuff.

in general, I love games. I can have a blast just playing a regular card game with whoever.

Oh, yeah, that reminds me, I had forgotten since it was so long ago, did some LARP with the old white wolf system. I also did some P&P version of it - Vampire, Mage, etc.

My favorite was probably Cyberpunk 2020 back then. That was fun.

Strangely, it seemed the white wolf system was more gender neutral, since there was more gender balance in the group.

I fence, box, and wrestle.

It's a game to me.

I gamble once in a blue moon, but avoid it because I'm good at it and don't want to develop an addiction. Last time I won $800 bucks at the horse races, so. meh.

No you're not.

Well, he's right about one thing.

If you believe you are good at gambling, you shouldn't do it and are likely to get an addiction to it.

lol.

Sounds like Sander wants to challenge me.
No, I mean you can't actually be good at gambling.

You cannot actually be good at picking horse race (or general sports) winners without doing a lot of research. More likely, you've just been lucky throughout your gambling and you're translating that to being good at it. Obviously that makes it a really good idea to not touch gambling again.

And needless to say, it is impossible to be profitable in casino house-games (hence not including poker, which you can be profitable at because you're playing against other people, not the casino).
