Best and worst quests

Were all like RPG's here and i was wondering what are some of your favorite or least favorite quests.

To start things off i really liked the arcanum X-files quest.

One of the worst quests ever is in KotoR where you have to help the struggling dancer.

Yes, but also in KOTOR, on Dantooine there's the droid who runs away because his master uses him for... stuff.

Heh, I remember that quest. The droid's gay British accent makes it even more funny.

Off the top of my head, one of my favorite quests was the Killian/Gizmo Junktown quest in Fallout. It had everything a good quest should have - multiple outcomes, significant impact on the game world, believable background, violence and plenty of humor. On the whole, Junktown has to be one of my favorite locations in any game, ever.

In addition to this, I enjoyed almost all quests in Torment. In that exquisite game even the most minor sidequests were incredibly imaginative and interesting. I wish all RPGs had such great quests.

Quests I hate include just about any sidequest in Baldur's Gate series and NWN, many quests in Arcanum and a few quests in Fallout 2. However, of all the sucky quests I ever had the displeasure of playing, the worst are without doubt in Daggerfall. I tell you, having to perform a hundred instances of hacking your way through an endless labyrinth of tunnels just to get some crappy leaf or kill a stupid harpy (only to learn that my current weapon can't damage the bitch, gah!) is an excellent way of alienating all but most masochist players. Random generated quests = teh suck.

Assuming LotR: RotK is an RPG...

The Southern Gate was totally awesome. I've played it with every character at least 5 times (at least 10 times with Aragorn, Leggie, Gimli and Faramir) and I really love it.

The quest to get Master status in Throwing is, without a doubt, one of the best in Arcanum. It puzzled me for about two days before I found the - rather obvious - solution.

I agree with Ratty on the Kilian Darkwater/Gizmo quest in Fallout. Great one, that.

I hate some of the quests in Fallout 2, like that quest where you have to kill the evil plants that are infesting Hakunin's garden or where you need to refuel Whiskey Bob's still. Too damn boring.

Most of the family quests in New Reno in Fallout 2 were great as well.

Alas, I would have liked the main Junktown quest more if they hadn't made it so damn PC, like they wanted.

The quest to slay the Butcher in Diablo ruled. Aaaah, fresh meat!

All right, I kid, I kid! I liked the Falcon's Ache quest in Arcanum very much, quite intriguing. Also, the way the Arronax quest turns out is cool.

Most of the quests in the Might And Magic series I played suck, but there was this cool one in MMVIII where you'd meet this disgruntled cleric who said both the Priests and the Necromancers were evil... Ah, yes... Feel the hatred...

Uh, yeah, also: No Fallout talk, guys :P

Well apart from the dungeon crawling suckage, Daggerfall did also have some nice quests, like having to guard the Mages' Guild from some Spellsword Thieves, travelling to an Inn and getting a precious stone from a fellow Thieves Guild member who is being stalked by the City Guards, or performing an Exorcism on some random young boy...

Of course, having to do each quest almost identically (the only stuff the random quest generation changed are the name of the kid and his [fecking difficult and annoying to find] Residence) delivers incredible frustration...

Not to mention when I reach the residence and it turns out all doors are locked! As I usually suck at lockpicking, I always bash the door down with a weapon (it has to be done in a few blows, because the first blow attracts the guards). The problems is, when I deliver the door that cracks the door open, I am automatically transported into the house, and for some inexplicable reason the guards wait for me there. So I need to quickly get out of the house, outrun the guards, make my way back to the house and enter through the (now open) door. Now that I think about, this level of freedom is the main reason why I loved Daggerfall so much (I doubt you can pull off something like that in KotOR or Final Fantasy...), despite all annoyances and shortocomings.

Heh, indeed. That's why I always created Custom characters to which I always added Lockpincking as a skill, or the necessary Magicka skill in order to create a custom "Open" spell at a guild. Never leave home without it!

(Speaking of "homes", did the houses or the ships you could buy at Banks or given as gifts by the Knights Guild serve any purpose?)

Speaking of freedom, wasn't it incredible that you could just mount a horse and start slaughtering every man and woman in a city? And a few days later, you get invited to join the Dark Brotherhood. Incredible!

Well, you could deposit stuff in them. And ships could substantially shorten your journeys. Other than that, I don't see any actual purpose to them.

I like the one in fallout where those thugs have a BOS member captive in the back room. Man, those fuckers are tough to take out.

Ugh, just playing Arcanum and I remembered the Altars quest with the map, and the book with the dieties! WTF?!

The gods quest rocks. It's pretty hard to find all the altars and some of the items you need for offering, as well as the right order to do these offerings, but the reward from Velorien is über.

I agree with Silencer on the Falcon's Ache quest. Very subtile, that one.

The quest from the Brotherhood of Steel to get to the Glow. Definitely.

Especially when you come back with that holodisk. And what you get for it.

And for some unfinished quests, such as bringing Sophie some Pulse Grenades from Mikael.

And, dammit, this is the Brotherhood of Steel!

The worst is hunting the Rat King. Long tedious and not too entertaining.

The best From other games - Strife: infiltrating the Order's Commons
KotOR: the whole Tatooine
Gothic: those in the 1s act
Gothic II: the 1st act
Gothic II: NotR: the whole bandit camp thing

The worst: G1: The Stranger and the temple of Sleeper
GII: The orcish colonel
NotR: the riddles in the Jharkendar's warriors temple.
