Best console game selection? (split from Games like Fallout)

Maybe in terms of graphics, but in terms of game selection and genre variety, the XBOX is abyssmal beyond definition.
No, not really. Gamecube is the worst. Inspite of Eternal Darkness.

And the upcoming Zelda game, mebbe.

Another thing they noticed about Fable is the poor AI. Hope they'll fix that too, but seeing Black and White, they should add another year to production. No, I think it's going to suck monstercock, but I want to keep my hopes up for this game, cause it's unusual and original, 'n all.

I was watching some gameplay footage and it showed a man battling these large beasts similar to wearwolves, and the framerate was appaling. It was like trying to run the doom 3 beta on a pII. I then looked at the screenshots and it was showing a man naked and smiling in the middle of a schoolhouse. What kind of sick freak wants to do that...even in a game? That reminds me of kadu posting that in F:POS at least he was able to have "sex" with a cyberwhore and feel the control rumble. Does that mean that when fable comes out and it sucks big he'll post on the fable forum saying "well, at least i was able to get naked infront of children without getting arrested(again)". I think its appaling how developers will put such trash into a game that they know is going to flop, just to get people like him to purchase it.

Reading back into the thread i noticed people talking about KotOR, and calling it an ADVENTURE game. I barrowed KotOR, and beat it twice in one day, one time good, one time evil. It took about 6 hours each time and no i wasnt using a walkthrough or cheats. That game was remarkably shallow, and horribly linear. About the only choice you had on anything was which order you travel the planets in and whether to kill someone or help them, a combination of the both would get you nowhere as your force powers developed toward your "karma". The end of the game is basically the same nomatter which path you choose. About the only good thing about the game is the snazzy graphics and the lightsaber twirling.

No, not true. Maybe for you it is, in which case I pity you, but the GameCube is the only console with consistent unique titles that really don't appear on other consoles or the PC. Practically every title on the XBOX came out on the PC, and the majority of the titles for the PS2 as well. I'm not going to buy a console so i can play games I can play on my PC as well.

PS: Fable will eventually come out on the PC. Really, it will. Remember Splinter Cell.

Heathen! Infidel! You shall pay for this outrage!

*silences the raving Star Wars fan* Hush, my split personality.

How come none of the games on my Xbox, Halo being the exception, are on the PC then? Fable probably won't come to the PC until 2006 or so. Nice wait. Splinter cell was a multi-platform release.

Name those games.

If it is released at all.
Nice wait. Splinter cell was a multi-platform release.
No, it wasn't. Splinter Cell was originally going to be XBox only. Until it got released on multiple platforms.

Halo wasn't worth the wait, and I doubt Fable will be. Face it, PC has less games than XBox (in most genres, at least), but they are mostly superior in quality. Same goes for all other consoles. PC >> all other platforms.

Sorry to hop back to talking about KOTOR, but am I the only one that thinks that game would have been 100x better if they replaced the crappy pause-n-play combat with Jedi Knight style action?

Ok, I'll name a few (some of them are a little rubbishy but I bought them because of the coop mode).

D&D Heroes
Dark alliance
Hunter the reckoning
Two towers
Chronicles of Riddick
Ninja gaiden
Psi-ops
Shenmue 2
Panzer dragoon Orta
SSX 3.

And I've borrowed Soul calibur 2 and planning an eventual buy of Dead or Alive 3. I also regularly play Burnout 2.

Oh, and Halo Xbox>>Halo PC, mainly thanks to the coop mode, normal system requirements and a much much earlier release. Don't get me wrong, I'm a hardcore PC gamer, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy a good game of Xbox with my friends.

PC has more games than Xbox. with the exception of fighting and car games. Sports games are pretty equal.

D&D Heroes
Crappy.
Dark alliance
Boring as hell.
Hunter the reckoning
Are you sure that didn't come out on PC?
In any case, not interesting either.
Two towers
Boring Hack 'n Slash, plus it did come out on both PS2 and Gamecube, making having an XBOX for that useless.
Chronicles of Riddick
Crappy, and I think it also came out for
Ninja gaiden
That's the only game I've heard to be good enough to buy an XBOX for.
Didn't that come out for the PS2 as well?

Shenmue 2
Dreamcast. But, true.
Panzer dragoon Orta
Came out for the PS2.

PS2 and Gamecube.
And I've borrowed Soul calibur 2
Multi-platform
and planning an eventual buy of Dead or Alive 3.
Meh. Pretty boring standard fighting game.
I also regularly play Burnout 2.
Another standard racing game.

I was comparing to the PC, duh. Not other consoles.

As I said, I only bought DA and Heroes because of the coop, and the fact that they were cheap. Chronicles of Riddick was NOT crappy, you've never played it, so how can you know? Dead or Alive 3 has more world interactivity than any other fighting game right now and tons of styles, and Burnout 2 isn't a standard racing game, since one of the objectives in the game is to crash your car. Get your info right next time, Sander.

All of the games you named, Baboon, are pure shit, except Ninja Gaiden and Shenmue (which I don't like since I dislike all Japanese games).

No, since KotOR uses a variant of D&D, which means it's turn-based under the hood and could never work as an action game. If they had just made it turn-based like TOEE it would have been much better.

Hmm..hmm. YOu do realise I base my info on a professional gaming magazine, one that prides itself in its incorruptobility and actually publishes every single offer they get from publishers pertaining to placement of games. eg. they published that they got an offer for a unique preview of Half-Life 2 if they would spend x pages on it and give it at least a 9/10 in their final review. They're a very good magazine, and frankly, I'm more inclined to trust their judgement than yours.

Well, I usually use several "professional" sources instead of a single one. Which is what I did here (at least 10 different reviews per game). Also, I've actually played the games, you haven't. You seem to have fallen for the "they've never been wrong before" argument, which is stupid. You don't have to not trust me because it's MY judgement, I share it with countless others. As I said, search a little more.

And Ratty, what proof do you have that these games I mentioned are shit? And what's that lame excuse about hating japanese games, which you pulled out of your ass just because those games were the ones you could eventually like?

Ahem. I do research, and I know what the general feelings are about these games. However, you seem to be falling for the "I've played, I liked it, so it must BE good" trap.
What's more, you're asking for PROOF. You're asking for proof for an opinion.

No. Proof that they are bad. You think they are bad for no particular reason, it seems.

"I've played, I liked it, so it must BE good". Yes. So? What else would you base your opinion on? Whether others liked it? That's pretty dumb, maybe... You're obviously not going to admit that you were wrong, so I suggest we stop this console thread here and go on about "Games like Fallout", m'kay?

No. Proof that they are bad. You think they are bad for no particular reason, it seems.
No, I think they're bad because either:
A) I've read a lot about them.
or
B) I've played them and thought they were bad.

However, there's a difference between "I think they're bad." and "they're bad." A very very very big difference.

Crap.

Hunter the reckoning
Two towers
Chronicles of Riddick

Boring, and some are action games. There's plenty of those for every console.

Ninja gaiden

Buying an XBOX for this title is like rationalizing the purchase of a Neo-Geo in 1990.

Psi-ops
Shenmue 2
Panzer dragoon Orta
SSX 3.

And I've borrowed Soul calibur 2 and planning an eventual buy of Dead or Alive 3. I also regularly play Burnout 2.

Most are action, and at least a couple are on other consoles.

Pardon me, but Halo is a little outdated now, and I wasn't that impressed with it to begin with. It had a few novel features, but on the whole it was a bit dry.

PC has more games than Xbox.

So does everything else. Microsoft was just as stupid as SNK was with the Neo-Geo

with the exception of fighting and car games. Sports games are pretty equal.

I just have to laugh at this ignorance.

Why should I prove that those games are shit? They suck. Period. I wouldn't be caught dead playing most of them.

And what's that lame excuse about hating japanese games, which you pulled out of your ass just because those games were the ones you could eventually like?
I hate Japanese games. That's not an excuse - that's a fact. I have yet to find a title that comes from Japan and doesn't want to make me regurgitate the contents of my stomach. This especially goes for all of their beat 'em ups (but doubly so for Tekken), the entire Final Fantasy series and just about any game similar to the latter.
