The only complaint I had about MP2 was that it was pretty short. Amazing graphics and gameplay, and a decent story (although the original Max had a better story.)
Fallout was without doubt the best demo I ever played. I was looking forward to Fallout because it was a kind of sequel to Wasteland, but once I played the demo it became my mission in life to get the game.
The Max Payne 2 demo is pretty good, it lets you play through a long enough portion of the game that you know exactly what you'd be getting into if you bought it. Other than those two I haven't played many demos - they usually take too long to download (especially when you have to go through FilePlanet) for the tiny amount of gameplay they give.
Best demos I've ever played? Age Of Empires 2 demo (which is basically the tutorial campaign with William Wallace) and the Unreal Tournament demo (not 2003, though). I had just bought me a new computer back then (a Compaq AMD 6AK or something, nothing very fancy) and for the first time in my life I had a cd-rom drive. So I went out and bought one of those computer magazines (PC Gameplay to be exactly - I still buy each issue) and I found these demos on the cd-rom that came with the magazine. I remember driving my girlfriend (who was then still living with me) insane with the sheep in Age Of Empires ("Mehehehe, mehehehe, ...") and with that voice in the Unreal Tournament demo that went "Player 1 is godlike" and such. Hehe. Those times... those good old days... the glorious past... ah...
That was a clever bit of advertising for Age of Empires. I had the game, one of my favorites. If you got it, try the conquerers edition- it substantially enhanced the game play.
Got the Conquerors expansion. Great enhancements indeed. One of the nicest changes, imo, is the fact that you can garrison men in battering rams which makes them faster and a little bit more devastating. That is so handy - it works wonders with the Celts. I'm not to keen on the Mayans and the Aztecs, though. My favourite races are the Goths, the Britons (those longbowmen are sooooooooooooooooo deadly) and the Huns.
There is one thing they should have added, though. I recently bought a budget set of Command & Conquer titles and whilst playing Red Alert 2 I noticed that your units level up if they cause enough damage, casualties etcetera. They get a bigger range, more damage and more hitpoints (I think). Now that feature would've been awesome in Age Of Empires. Instead, though, you constantly need to upgrade. The elite status of those special units you can make in the castle (like an elite berserker) should've been something they earned on the battlefield. That would've enhanced gameplay even more.
I agree. Been feeling the need to play some Age of Empires just go go aconquering. My favorite is the Spanish. I play a pretty mobile game and the conquistadors and the missionaries play well with mobile forces. I also like to play the French and the Turks, - Turks got great artillery. Been thinking about playing more vikings. I like the berzerker look.
I agree, upgrading on the battlefield would have been a good idea. Still that game is way to much fun.
