The mad max films were a huge inspiration on the fallout games. That's my excuse for this thread. I'll not be voting but I feel like this is something NMA should be polled on and have good discussion about.

This OP is a mess.

Anyway I think Road Warrior is easily the superior film out of them all. Even the director admits that Mad Max 1 was really weird and he wasn't really happy with it. Thunderdome was pretty good until it became Peter Pan halfway through (why bethesda decided to take inspiration from THAT of all things is beyond thunderdome me.). Fury Road isn't even a real Mad Max movie if you ask me. He's barely in it and all he does is grunt a lot and get smack around by our "stronk independent womyn protagonist #BreakThePatriarchy"

let me say that i love every Mad Max movie. i only like Beyond Thunderdome but for the longest time Road warrior was my favorite and in my heart it still is yet i still voted for Fury road; why? because Fury road is like Road warrior but better in almost every way.its one of the defining if not the defining action movie of this generation and it was directed by an old man who just got done with a happy feet movie.

I've yet to see Fury Road.
But from what I gather, I think the first will always be my favourite.
I get that Road Warrior is a classic and I like it, but it feels a little... streamlined when compared to the first (I don't really know the best word to describe it).
Beyond Thunderdom was kinda of Okayish. Certainly the weakest of the original trilogy.

mad max movies save for Mad Max were never about max. Max no pun intended is just a "vehicle" into this crazy post apocalyptic wasteland and its characters. i love maxs character but he doesnt matter one bit and barely ever spoke in any other movie. Furiosa barely felt like the "strong independent woman" she was just another borderline feral human in this terrible world. she never once gave me vibes of "smash the patriarchy".

But he was the main character and got the most screen time, had actual dialog and more importantly, ACTUALLY did things.

The entire plot revolves a bunch of spoiled princesses upset that despite the fact they live better than 99% of the population they're the oppressed ones and they decide to crumble an entire civilization. Max spends most of the film in the chains (literally for a little while) for Furiosa and her band of Victorias secret models as they fend off Joe's entire army and meet up with a clan of old lesbians. With said crusty old ladies they manage to totally dismantle Joe's civilization and waste almost all the water he had control over. This film had a popular feminist author as a consultant and it fucking shows (and this movie fucking blows).

I'd like a mad max rpg in the style of classic fallout. I've always been I interested in the interactions between towns and Max's affects on the towns. In a lotta ways max is the vault dweller because most of the stories don't revolve around him but rather his affect on how other people's stories play out. Perfect for an rpg adaptation imo.

Well whatever. The only stance fury road actively takes is "sex slavery is bad" I wouldn't exactly call that feminism. Now can we stop ruining this thread. Seriously we're not even on page 2 yet it's fucking embarrassing.
What? We're discussing the film? I'm sorry, would you like to update the OP with approved topics of discussion about the films? Also saying "This is the only stance the film has; now stop discussing it" without backing up your claim is rather hypocritical.

I kinda love all the films equally( even thunder dome). If I had to chose though I would probably go with fury road. I love the pure insanity of it, and the mythology/lore it builds. Plus war boys are FUCKING awesome!!

the movie revolves around slave women used as breeders for a warlord. yes they do get more luxury but they are still treated as property. yeah max spent time in chains because hes fucking feral. of course theyre Victorias secret models they need perfect breeding material to make the perfect soldiers. you do know they have almost 200 years worth of water right? immortan even tried to make it like too much water was bad in order to press his dominion over the people. the consultant was just there to see if the way the breeders were being treated was consistent with actual victims of sex slavery. "the movie fucking blows" literally factually incorrect. also linking to clickbait shit like the guardian doesnt validate anything man.

My favourite is still Road Warrior, although each movie has something going for it. Even Beyond Thunderdome, although that movie went belly-up halfway through. But any movie that has a fortune wheel with "GULAG" on it can only be cool.
And yeah, Fury Road ruled. It had a feminist message, so what? It didn't make the movie bad in any way, it wasn't Ghostbusters. While it was kinda weird that Max was not exactly the main character, the movie was still pretty damn awesome.

Road Warrior was best. Mad Max and Beyond Thunderdome were decent.

Fury Road was pretentious shit.

Fury Road is essentially a remake of the Road Warrior. It's everything the Road Warrior wanted to be with the technology behind it to make it happen. That movie turns everything up to 11.

So I'd say Fury Road.

Every movie is an entirely different beast.

First one offers the view of a dystopian (not PA future) where world is on brink of collapse and offers a fairly common story of "a man losing everything" and then taking his revenge. It was asthetically unique, and of all films it has the most "complex" story.

Second one is more streamlined, more action, less story and character focus. However, this one is full PA and gave the definitive "wasteland look" that would be copied so many times later. Raw action, raw power. Great film and the first one I've seen. This film and the first one share the first spot of my "favorite". It is, however, quite different from the first film in many ways and therefore somewhat of a weird sequel. Since this is the film I've first seen, I'll vote for it.

Third one, "the odd one out". Weird film. Visually great, and has a very strong start, but jumps the shark halfway through. Still, Thunderdome itself is beyond awesome and the film has a solid ending. My least favorite, but okay, nonetheless.

Fourth one I consider a reboot for several reason (mostly canon differences and chronology lapses). Again, something completely different. Great action, great music. All the people complaining that this film has the least Max in it are right, but all of you should consider that, aside from the first film, Max was basically never the center of the film's plot, he was more of a knife than a thread in the Gordian knot. Similar thing here.

And yeah, all of those complaining that this movie is uber-feminist or something - what the fuck is wrong with you?
Yeah, it has feminist undertones, but Mad Max as a franchise had that shit from the very start, along with a strong pro-environment message (both of which are often featured in George Miller's films).
Second film had badass female wasteland warrior(s), third one had the most prosperous city in the wasteland ruled by a woman (and a black woman at that), and Fury Road has women trying to escape the abusive captor, rapist and warlord, which is totally an unrealistic scenario in this day and age, yeah.
What the fuck people? I can understand calling out this film for lots of things, but making it some SJW wet dream is just unrealistic and stupid. The messages of this films are tastefully done and well made for the most part, if you can't handle that and find it offensive for some convoluted reason, you really have a problem.

True, but on the other hand I think you couldn't do the first two movies today without some backlash from the LGBTQ community. I mean, the good guys are all heteronormative while all the baddies are somewhat androgynous and depicted as sexual deviants?

That's a good point.

Then in Fury Road, all of the villains are hyper-masculine male barbarians and the only community of people who didn't lose their humanity are women.

Read into that what you may.
