Best new RPGs

It ran well for me at 768 MB, but it has some problems with low virtual memory. So make sure you have at least 2GB of free hard disk space after installation.

Ok I have heard from many here Troika made a bitchen Vampire game... These posts have made my decision I have to check it out.

To be honest... I have been playing Lineage II since it came out... HATE if yu want but I really enjoy it. I pretty much bought any game that has interested me in the past few years. My box collection is at 9' 6".

I feel the entire KOTOR series was lacking something the Outcast series was not. I really enjoyed Jedi Outcast over KOTOR.

Stay away from:
RYL - Path to the emperor
Deus Ex 2 (ohh what an piece)
Plenty of others I disliked... but many like them such as EQ2. So I wont mention them.

If you have not played Deus Ex I HIGHLY suggest it. You will not be disappointed. As someone else pointed out Morrowind is worth a try too.

It has been suggested, but I'll give you a friendly reminder:

Arcanum.

One of the few RPGs that's as good as, or even better, than Fallout. Excellent dialouge, multiple choices and outcomes to many situations coupled with an interesting world and very good character design makes it a game worth every single penny.

When a game can actually make you want to be a part of an undead army, you have no choice but to love it!

"Outcast series"? What, pray tell, is this "Outcast series"? It's Jedi Knight series. Or, even more accurately, Dark Forces series (damn, 1994-1995 period was a good time for Star Wars games). However, I never liked the Dark Forces series. Those games always had poor, vapid plots and dull characters. The only sequels I truly enjoyed were the original Dark Forces (It had Darth Vader!) and Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight, mainly due to great technical execution and sheer playability (hacking off stormtroopers' arms was damn entertaining, especially in 1997, when Build Engine and its sprites still represented the height of interactivity). The latter sequels were just insipid and designed as if 1998 and Half Life never happened (hint: straightforward and repetitive gameplay, overdone characters and plots that make even mediocre fan fiction seem like Hugo material *just don't cut it anymore*).

That said, the gentleman who started this thread asked for us to recommend him good new *RPGs* (as in not Morrowind and not Deus Ex). My list of games one should give a shot includes:
<ul>
[*]Gothic series
[*]Geneforge series
[*]Prelude to Darkness
[*]Avernum series
[*]Exile series
[*]Abaddon: Fallen Angel
[/list]

Seconding this one. I haven't played any of the others, but this one is quality.

Also, this isn't exactly a new RPG, but have you tried Arx Fatalis? It's one of the coolest RPG's I've ever played. It's first-person, set in the middle ages, and you can do pretty much whatever you want. You can kill rats and then cook & eat 'em, you can use almost anything as a weapon, from a metal pole to the bones of some skeleton in a deeep, dank dungeon. And you cast spells using your mouse cursor- just memorize the correct pattern, no searching through windows and taskbars.

I liked it a lot, even though the story is pretty basic and the graphics leave much to be desired.

Jedi Knight II Jedi Outcast
the Jedi Knight series is what I was getting at. Heh and gee sorry if I went back a few years. Good is good. IMO there has been little that measures up to what has been released

Well that’s all in the eye of the beholder now isn’t it?
You could consider Deus Ex an RPG... Or an adventure game, FPS or strategy. This is why the game is so great. It really is in a league of its own.

Well, let me put it this way, if old school RPGs are dying out, I'd rather they be replaced by games like Deus Ex than by games like Restricted Area and Auto Assault...

Um, no. But never mind, it's not important. Deus Ex rocks. *That's* what's important.

Footnote to the discussion of Vampire:Bloodlines;
Tim Cain worked on that title, too.

Hmm, other RPGs.

You can get System Shock II from The Underdogs
(still there unless the publisher has requested it
be taken down). Failing that you might get lucky
and find it in a budget bin.

The NWN trilogy is available cheap if you haven't tried it.

Baldur's Gate I and II is being sold as a collection.

Soulbringer and The Summoner aren't bad either.

Another War is a decent tongue-in-cheek WWII rpg.

I've heard good things about Shadow Vault but not
played it (Time travel, WWII rpg).

Arx Fatalis isn't bad.

Even though it's a bit moot whether they're 'strictly'
rpg games, I'd like to mention the 'Thief' series,
simply because they're great games.

Bloodlines has many flaws, but it's a lot better and deeper than Diablo: Redempti- err, Vampire the Masquerade: Redemption. That must be the most boring hack 'n slash I have ever played, and I have endured NWN's entire original campaign, which says *a lot* about my patience.

Redemption I actually didn't mind, mainly because of the reasonably well done dialogue and voice acting that actually made the story bearable. I still vividly remember damn near pissing my pants with laughter during the conversation between Dev/null and "pissed-off Christof".

But I still wouldn't recommend it.

I'm now playing Bloodlines non-stop. I'm so addicted it it, this game is simply GREAT! True, not near as great as Fallout, but it's great in it's own special way. Thanks for recommending it to me chaps!

haha wow that demo was pretty bad it reminded me of Terminal Velocity on foot

I like summoner its a nice game. the story was pretty serious and the ending.... well find out. But that movie was played when you finished the game. I remember that liked it alot, but it doesnt seems to funny now. Maybe i should play the game again.

Vampire The Masquerade: The Redemption was nice in dialouges, voice acting and storyline... But it was really a shame that all that advantages couldn't help the game... Still worth a try though...
Deus Ex was extremely great... Another shame goes for Deus Ex 2 though...
Arcanum was indeed one of the greatest RPGs I played recently (though it got old)...
Bloodlines was surely good... I never encountered a bug throughout the unpatched game...
Well it's actually pretty old and can hardly be considered as a RPG but I would recommend Chrono Trigger on SNES...

well, at least chrono trigger has a great story and nice music

and there is even a bit of replayability in that game... odd for a squaresoft SNES RPG game
