Betting Pool. When will Iply tank ?

Eeeeehrm, you mean they haven't yet? :look:

As far as I know, they HAVE tanked; they just haven't filed for protection yet.

Interplay:

1. No good games out currently.

2. Company staff that actually made GOOD games were canned for some stupid ass reason.

3. No staff available to work on either new GOOD games or to salvage good but abandoned projects.

Conclusion: IPLAY is fucked as of NOW.

I don't think it will be until mid 2005. DA2 will sell based on its name alone, which will give them enough false hope until Herve deploys his golden parachute and jumps off, leaving the I"play plane to crash and burn.

The first one didn't sell as great as IPLY hyped it up to selling. If IPLY is lucky, they might get $5M out of both Fallout Enforcer and DA2 after the retail outlets and Sony and MicroSoft get their cuts for the game sales. Some of that will have to go towards paying on their debt, which is fairly large. They were $7.7M in the hole as of September 30th with $7,000 showing in the bank at that time. They won't be able to fund a new game if they sink all that money from Fallout Enforcer and DA2 in to their debt, so that's still looming.

Also, they haven't published the results of Q4 2003 yet. Since they didn't release anything during that quarter, that debt probably went up considering they were developing Fallout 3 during that time as well as Fallout Enforcer 2 and whatever else they might be working on.

So far, the only quarters Interplay's made any profit on in the last several years are the quarters where they've sold off licenses and studios, like selling Shiny and the Matrix license. As of right now, they have less opportunity to make money because they have less licenses to play around with and less developers to develop those licenses.

About the only thing you can count on coming out from Interplay this year would be Fallout Enforcer 2, and that's assuming Fallout Enforcer didn't tank as hard as I'm guessing it did judging by the reviews.

Even I am richer than that!

My prediction: IPLY will become fishtankfood by the end of the year.

You know, this may sound stupid, but I'll actually be sorry to see Interplay go. I mean, nowadays their just a bunch of money-grabbing bastards, but their games have accompagnied me throughout my childhood & puberty: Stonekeep, Fallout, BG,... You name it.

So there is actually a bit of sentimental value attached to the name Interplay, in my case.

Agreed, but those games and developers are all gone. Don't get me wrong, I grew up on Interplay...I remember I spent many hours with my dad playing the old Star Trek 25th Anniversary game...sheesh...that thing came on lke 15 floppies. I thought it took eternity to install.

...Anyway, Interplay is now just an empty shell. It's a ghost of it's former self. A sick dog, if you will.

They put Old Yeller down...it's about time Interplay goes, too.

Agreed, but I did clearly say 'the name interplay'. I also have no sympathy left for the company itself, but it will be a shame to never get to buy a game with 'Interplay' on it. Because up till about two years ago, you just KNEW it would be a good game. Yeah well, nothing ever last, I guess...

I know what you mean.

Heres all teh Iply games I have

1-Fallout
2-Fallout2
3-Fallout:Tactics
4-StarTrek:Starfleetcommand
5-StarTrek:Starfleetcommand2
6-StarTrek:Starfleetcommand the orion pirates
7-Klingnon Academy
8-Starfleet academy
9-redneck rampage
10-redneck rampage2

and a few others.

Let me see...
If I was a betting man, I'd say by June 2004. I mean, IPLY is owned by Titus, "proud" publisher of Superman 64 and other video game abortions. I don't remember any Titus game actually being good. So when you add that to the Scrooge-like decision of IPLY to fire all but two BiS members days before Christmas... seems like they were making more stupid decisions than Sega over the past four years.
And then either M$ or EA will assimilate IPLY. But that probably won't mean the end for Fallout, either. I think IPLY will eventually sell the rights in a liquidiation sale, similar to the one 3DO had last year. (Namco picked up Street Racing Syndicate, M$ got High Heat Baseball, and thankfully, no one picked up Army Men.)
That's my $0.02. Take it as you will.
