Bioshock or Bioshock 2?

How about SS1?
It looks really interesting

Yes, it looks absolutely stellar too. But I haven't gotten around to trying it out, mostly because I don't know where to find it and because I've got the impression that it's hard to run on modern computers and that the controls are very awkward (specific keys for looking around for example).

System Shock 1 runs fine on DOSBox, but the controls are really a pain in the ass. I actually stopped playing it because of the controls, they're really, really awkward. Maybe I'll get to it again...
Anyway, System Shock 1 is abandonware as far as I know.
You can get a version that runs on Windows here or you can get the DOS-version here.

Well, System Shock is based on Ultima Underworld's technology, the control schemes are rather similar (freely movable mouse cursor to interact with the scenery and the HUD).
It's clunky and awkward to say the least, but since I never played Ultima Underworld I don't really know if it's better or worse.
It's been a while since I played TES1, but I guess SS1 is a little bit better.
I'd say it's somewhat similar to TES2 in free interaction mode.
You can get used to it, probably.

The SSP version seems to have a mod that enables mouselook. Did you try that version, Hassknecht? I can imagine the controls being a little less awkward with that.

No, I only played the DOS-version 'cause I'm awesome like that ;)
I think the SSP-version is just the DOS-version that comes with a DOSBox-wrapper of some sort, not much more, but I'm not sure about that.
