2K games has launched the official site for Bioshock. For those who forgot why we cover this game, take a look at all the awesome 50's americana on that site alone. The site has a flashy flash version (in 5 languages), but in consideration of those of us on slower connections has also supplied a html version.

Also, Gamespot came up with another "lush" trailer. Take a look.

those screens always fill me with so much hope... i fear my poor soul will be ripped to shreds if it turns out to have been all hype. :(

Yeah, me too...I've place so much hope in that game ! The only thing that is sure is that, so far, it looks great as far as the design is concerned.

I like what they're doing so-far, and if it's anything like System Shock 2 I'll probably enjoy it.

I can't wait for the uber 1337 next gen water grfx!! omg!

edit: Yawn-Stretch.. another "pa" fps..

"Another"? Have you by any chance played any of the system shocks? Considering this one will have the same people behind the system shock series, the chances of it being successful are pretty high (and of it being at least unusual are 100%). One of the things that may not live up to the hype is the AI, which might pull a Radiant. It will be a great game if it is at least 50% as good as System Shock 2 was.

LazyD, have you even looked at any of this material yet?

The visuals are very atmospheric, not just pretty. These are probably on par with Fallout, Torment and Bloodlines when it comes to visuals.

The storyline seems very original and interesting, as does the system of upgrades. It has a great feel to it, and it fits.

And the mechanics they built into the game are great as well. The whole child-guardian thingie they have going on is really interesting, for instance.

Seriously, look into a game before making comments.

I've looked into It.. trust me I have. The setting is ok.. I'm not sure about the whole underwater city thing tho.. I'll admit I've just skimmed the surface of the details. The main site is where I have read all the info on the game. It doesn't really go into depth about the backstory at all.. which leaves me wondering how exactly this is a PA setting.. and what went wrong in the 'bathysphere' called Rapture. I won't doubt that all of what there saying sounds great. It does. I'm just keeping my healthy skepticism. I'm done with buying into hype. In my experience buying into the hype hurts more in the end.

The upgrades sound neat.. But I think what would make this game sound 10x better for me if It had more RPG elements.. like Stalker was going to have. From what I've read its just a survival horror fps.. with semi pa setting. I might be wrong about this but its just what I have interpreted from what I've read on the main site.

it isnt really a PA setting, since it's only the Rapture that is going to shit & not the world afaik.

the thing was built by doomthinkers, but the world didn't die as predicted.

it wasn't meant to be a fullfledged RPG, so you cant blame them for it not being an RPG.

I'm not blaming anyone.. I'm just saying the game would be more apealing to me if it had RPG elements.. The way the game stands right now it just looks like a survival horror fps. God knows we've seen plenty under that genre.

Not of the level I've seen in the play-demos, really. This blasts Half-Life 2 in terms of atmosphere *and* mechanics, from the bits they've shown so far. And considering their track record (the System Shock series) there's no reason to distrust them at all.

I object to the Half-Life 2 comparison, Sander, as first and foremost, BioShock is not a pure-bred FPS like Half-Life 2 and both have drastically different setups, backgrounds and worlds.

That said, I'm really looking forward to Bioshock.

I was merely responding to LazyD's assessment that it was just a 'survival horror fps'. Which is how I perceive Half-Life 2.

I'm not defending HL2 here. I in all honesty disliked the sp of HL2 a lot. I found it bland and really predictable. Which I think Bioshock is going to please me concidering its a unique setting and story. But how was HL2 a survival horror? I didnt find anything very horrifying at all..

Did you play through Ravenholm at all?
Not that it was scary, but if that wasn't supposed to be horror, I don't know what is.
