Bioware does have amazing voice acting

The quality of the writing (and probably direction) is the main issue with Bethesda, impacting on the extent of a voice actor's ability.

Just listen to the Redguard smith in Oblivion's Imperial City say, "A pleasure to serve you." It's a standard shopkeeper's line, not some poorly written piece of drivel. And the voice actor says it likes a come-on in a 70s porn movie.

You can complain about Bethesda's writing - I won't argue. But the voice acting also stinks.

VA in Bioware's games has been great as long as I can remember. If only they had good writing to go with it and not the crap that happened in DA:O... In a way, a problem reverse from Bethesda's.

But the important thing is that they tried ("tried" meaning dumping huge amounts of money without much thought). The same cannot being said for the writing.

that's awesome. nice to see half the cast from Chuck in there  I <3 Yvonne Strahovski.

I guess I don't understand you at all. Who tried? Bethesda? They paid money for voice acting that stinks. The voice actors? Who cares if they tried? Because they stink.

And, Bethesda did indeed dump money without much thought into the writing, too, which is why it also stinks.

As to Bioware... Better voice acting, sure. The writing is still melodrama and soap opera.

Nice to see some actors with decent amounts of experience from video games and cartoons, should be good :)

If Miss Lawson was genetically modified to be "the perfect woman", than WOW, experiment failed, dudes.

With guys like Michael Hogan, Michael Dorn and mommafucking Keith David, you can't go wrong.

But yeah, Bethesda's problem is their insistent hanging on to the delusion that they can do their own VA recording in their in-house studio. But they lack a good casting director and VA director. They should just outsource.

Damn, I can't wait for that game the more I hear about it. It's like ME without the things I hated.

Anyway, the voice acting in ME was excellent already, especially the relatively unknown main voice. The only performance that I did not like was the female Shepard.

The writing in BioWare games is not amazing but it doesn't suck, especially compared to most other games nowadays. If Bethesda finally caved and paid a good writer and more than one decent actor, their games would suck a lot less too.

LOL, my thought exactly. And just overall, the game clips used in the video looked pretty horrid; I hope that's not what the finished game will look like.

They do need a VA director. Maybe stop blowing money on celebrity VAs that die 10 minutes in game? I did like Stewart in Oblivion, but Neeson sounded a bit bored and phoned in. McDowell was very good though. Maybe they should at least just hire celebs with VA experience?

When I read that VA list for Fallout 1 and 2, I wondered how fucking rich Interplay must have been.

Aslan in the movie is all like, "Oh jeez, another fucking load of Sons of Adam and Daughters of Eve. What shit could they possibly be doing? Aw fuck, now I got to sacrifice myself to save this one traitor. I need a fucking drink..."

Didn't like ME that much (don't like very many western action RPG's... more of a JRPG guy) but the voice overs were very good. ME2 should have some good VO's as well. I loved the Baldur's Gate narrator as well.

Bethesda doesn't need an excuse, people still buy their shit up.

I love that Michael Dorn is playing a part in ME2 :D Starting to look forward to it now.
