BIS Mapper Best Practice

Robert B

Kitty's got some rads!
So guys, in using the BIS Mapper, I've noticed a lot of holes where the player can slip through the walls; even though there is no visible gap. Is it best practice to place SAI blocks under all the walls as you build or do you just plug holes with them as you notice player behavior?

SAI are invisible blocker. If you look at the minimap (TAB), you won't see them there. For walls, you are using wall 621 (blocking, no view through), for windows or anything else the player can look through, you'll use wall 622 ("wall s.t.").

SAI blockers are used in places you don't want the player to move, but he also shouldn't know that he can't move there. In Fo1 they are used like this:

In Fo2 they mostly forgot about them. My guess is that it's either because of different people making the maps and / or they simply didn't had the time for details like this (If we're looking at the Fo2 maps, some of them are really damn bad).

Oh, they are also used as map borders, so critters won't be able to leave the visible area:

Thank you for the clarification @Lexx, I'll switch over to using 621 and 622 wall blocks to close the gaps in the architecture. For the exterior of the map, I'll continue to use SAI blocks.

622 is a wall blocker that allows critters to shoot through (such as windows and low metal barriers)...621 is a wall blocker that wont allow critters to shoot through.
