Blue access cards - what are they for?

First time out of the vault
I've now found two blue access cards on the bodies of ghouls I killed - what are they good for? I haven't found anything about them anywhere and they seem like random loot. Are they just a reference to the colored access cards used in Fallout 1 & 2 - or do they have an actual use???
 
Blue pass cards mean Protectrons on the blue metro lines do not attack you after being activated.

Same for red pass cards.
 
So they are basically like the metro access cards - what's the advantage? Do you keep the access card in your inventory after the protectron checked it?
