Bought Arcanum, Need Help

Because I'm <s>aski</s> telling you to use capital letters. It will make your posts easier to read.
A funny thing happened yesterday. A friend of mine (who is into older games) asked me to show him Arcanum and I agreed. In an effort to impress him with übar spells, I took my level 50 fighter/mage to Shrouded Hills and began laughing maniacally and slaughtering the townsfolk. As the last of the guards fell, I glanced at him and asked:
"So, what do you think of the game?"
His response?
"Bah, it's really lame. I thought combat would be more dynamic, but these dumb enemies just stand around staring at you while you cast spells. Fuck that."
"... It's turn-based, dumbass."
"So, what do you think of the game?"
His response?
