Pardon?

McCain is only a republican, because he couldn't get elected as a third party. He's as libertarian as a person can get and not feel dirty as a registered republican.

The majority of sane Libertarian parties are in the Republican party. Look at Guliani, or Swrazenneger. As a matter of fact the origional Republican party was pretty close to a Libertarian one.

And yet, McCain-Feingold...

Aside from the previous statements, the purpose is to make a better Bush, not a dream candidate.

What the fuck is this, a debate?

Well, for one, McCain advocates fiscal responsibility, and would be less likely to throw away money on something like Homeland Security and Medicare while implementing tax cuts.

Hell, even Reagan had to raise taxes towards the end of is term.

Actually, McCain was highly critical of Bush tax cuts (saying the same things Dems do - that they benefit only a small percent of the population in any meaningful way and also that they are fiscally irresponsible) during their primary fights for the nomination and since. I figure he would probably be ok with centrist Clinton-esque levels but Im not 100% sure. He is a pretty frugal guy and would cut spending on what he sees as unimportant programs (cutting the fat, as it were - wasteful spending; he tends to complain about stuff like indoor forest funding, exotic pet disease research, medical reseach on bears, and other pork barrel spending) but Social Security, Medicare and so on arent things he would touch.

What does it do to the deficit? The Congressional Budget Office is a non-partisan -- the head of it is appointed by Republicans -- because the Republicans are the majority. The Congressional Budget Office says that we're just doing terrible things, that Social Security and Medicare are not going to be sustainable.

well, i dont think anyone would exactly fill the bill for pres. all hopefuls this year all suck. it dosnt matter who is in office wether it be democrat or republican some people wont be happy.

I didn't say he would cut them (which he should), but that he'd probably not sign in a new medicare bill that would end up costing us trillions of dollars.
