Buying Cds is fun, again!

Sonny, I Watched the Vault Bein' Built!
I just got the new Nine Inch Nails: Year Zero CD (a bit late I know). Anyway I took the CD out and it was brown with some 0’s and 1’s here and there as well as halo24. Then I put it in my computer to upload it to my iPod. When I took the CD out it was white. Then I notice my finger prints immerging and I get even more confused then it turns green and back to brown. Apparently the paint/coding is heat sensitive. With everyone downloading their music straight from the net (you can’t even physically walk to a store to buy the new Radiohead) this was a very pleasant surprise. Anyone buy any CDs that are more then cheesy album art and lyrics?

Also while reading the booklet I noticed a thanks to Activision does anyone know if Trent did anything with them besides Quake and The Doom movie?

EDIT: I found the youtube of the CD http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FaZFNqEMWxA

I know Trent did Ambient sounds for Doom 3 and in quake the nailgun ammo boxes say NIN on them!

I knew that gun before i knew what Nine Inch Nails was. Also as far as i recall the sounds did not make it into the actual game due to "time, money and bad management"

Heh, had the same experience as you Drunky. For a second I was sure I opened the wrong CD tray when I saw the different color.

But wait, there's more!!

Here's the recipe for more fun with this album:

Open up Winamp. Select "Visualization," then do "Select plug-in" Select "Nullsoft Tiny Fullscreen" and choose "Sexy Scrolling Voiceprint" from the "Plug-in Module" pull down menu. Now play "The Warning" and fast forward to the last couple of seconds (the static part). Listen/watch the visualization.

You may need to change the resolution to really see... it.

Woohoo! Heat-sensitive cd's! When you have the flu, you can shove them up your arse to take your temperature! A new breakthrough in the wonderful world of pharmaceuticals and medicine!

Newsflash: the new Radiohaed cd will be available in shops somewhere in January 2008. But you can order a nice discbox online and have it delivered to your home beginning of December 2007.

Also: before he met me, Trent was called Mancuntpussyfucktard. Figure it out for yourselves. 8-)

I heard they will also have a box set with VINYL RECORDS and some artwork. Just another example of promoting people to actually support the band and buy the CD.

News Flash: "Mancuntpussyfucktard" or "Michael" put his two last albums on myspace and gave everyone a chance to hear every track. None of this buy my shit for .02 ponds now and then buy the the tangible CD later which is what all the real fans will do anyway.

That's the diskbox I was talking about. £40 they ask for it. It also contains an extra cd with 8 new tracks which will not be available in shops ever. The shop version will simply be the new cd "In Rainbows", no vinyl, no artbook with lyrics, no nothing extra. :(

The main reason why they went for that download option, was to have complete control of the release. They wanted to get the music out there as soon as they thought it was finished. No need to wait an extra half year while the new album is locked away in some record label's main vault, waiting to be leaked onto the interwebz by some rotten apple (it has happened to their last two albums).
I think most solid fans did what I did, though: order the diskbox. 'Cause when ordering the diskbox, you also get a free download of the album. Soon I'll have something tangible delivered to my address and in the meantime I can already enjoy the new numbers. I think that works well.
I like why Trent put Year Zero up for download, though. I get a weird kick out of everytime the greedy music industry is taught a lesson.

i like what radiohead is doing with the new album.

the less middlemen there is between the artists and the public the better to some extent...

the RIAA is allready signing contracts with artists that imply the artists pay them money from concerts because they still expect the same kinds of profits as 15 years ago.

i for one love the fact that artists will be touring and doing more gigs again for a living ... and producers can get money more directly.

i like and still like the physical aspect of cds vynil even tapes ... but its an easy medium to try and hogg like with RIAA:P

The figures for the radiohead downloads have been released, they average $8 per download, roughly 65% of all people who downloaded it payed for it

The last CD that I had bought that really impressed me with the construction would have to be Powerman 5000's Tonight the Stars Revolt!

The art style and thought put into the design of the booklet, along with the music and their videos, made quite an impression with their fans. Most I've talked to liked that style and wished they kept it.
