C4?

Hellcat Raider

First time out of the vault
Weird question. The C4 in fallout NV has the sensor module on the outside of the lunchbox meaning the entire payload is in the lunchbox itself. What I'm wondering is how much would a lunchbox full of C4 weigh, and how much power would it have? Probably some comparisons?

I accidentally searched up "How much power would a lunchbox full of C4 have" on Google before coming here. I'm pretty sure I'm on the FBI watch list right now.

Let's see. A normal-sized lunch box is, in non-retarded units, about 22.5 x 17 x 10 cm³, so a volume of 3825 cm³.
The standard military demolition block M112 is a rectangular block of 28 x 5.1 x 3.8 cm³, so 542.6 cm³, weighing 0.57 kg. So in one lunchbox you have about seven M112 charges in there, weighing in at about 3.5 kg.
How powerful is that? Well, Youtube delivers:

Here's what 1 kg looks like:

/edit: Here's a good one of 4.5 lbs of C4 in a bus:

/edit2: I think you meant the Bottlecap mine? The C4 explosives themselves don't come in a lunchbox, but the game model is a retextured lunchbox, so the sizes are the same. Although the package of the C4 looks like it only contains four M112 charges, so it would be weaker than a full lunchbox of C4...

That was fucking quick...

But anyway, this is a basically a standard case of "Hollywood gets explosions wrong?"

Mostly gameplay and balancing reasons, I guess. Although the lunchbox is probably not full of C4, there have to be caps in there as well.
Given that the bottlecap mine weighs 0.5 lbs, there could be about half a M112 charge in there, the rest is filled with caps (that don't weigh much).
