hey mr. genius
some people (like myself) have never played fallout 1

There's only one thing I can say to that.

Buy fallout 1. Play fallout 1. Love fallout 1. You can probably get the game cheap somewhere, so why wouldn't you?

i've been thinking about it but i would most likely be thinking "this isn't as good as fallout 2"....

also thanks for not taking offence to my post you just replied to, i've had headaches all week & been slightly snappy :)

It didn't come over as snappy to me. And I still advise you to get fallout 1 because it's simply much better than the sequel. Many people here will confirm that. Ok, the bartering with your NPCs can be a bitch and there aren't as many places to go and weapons to play with, but all in all the feel and story of the game was much better. Trust me, it's worth your money even after playing FO2.

ok then, i think i will :) i should be able to find it pretty cheap somewhere
thanks

Just make the damn map bigger

Not in the sence of 1024x but like once again an extra 50%. And more variaty in local area maps (LAM(e)). More detail such as, depending on wich part of a mountain you are, a high one might have snow (poisoned snow=nuclear fallout) on it, this might seem a little inappropriate in California, but it's simply the effect of an Nuclear Holocaust. Start at vault 15, about 20 years earlier to Fallout 1(later in the game to find it back destroyed, together with a small new settlement 'Shady Sands') Put in lakes with Islands in them in the map. How to cross the water, I leave that to you, since I saw no small boats or vertibirds in Fo1.
I think California wil do nicely in Fallout 3(D, or 'the Offical Wasteland 2') But anywhere else that has deserts and a ruined civilasation.

Solution: for thos of you that can't agree on what location should be used... did you consider the option to choose from some different locations (different maps, or different locations on the same map) each with its own Storyline?

Here now, did that help?

RE: fo3 should be placed in china

If you take the game out of california, you would be missing out on much of the unfinished elements in f2. In f2, the developers foreshadowed that the shi would have much to do with the next fallout. There would be no shi if it was in china. The gamer would never see the newly formed arroyo(which disappointed me after i beat f2). Never would we see Marcus' half mutant bastard son. We'd never be able to have mutants at all(unless there was a far stretch with the whole fev thing). Dogmeat most certainly would not be there(and he barely got there in f2). and if you would move it, why from the us. The campy 50's theme throughout the game would be gone. Instead it would be communist propaganda theme. Sounds fun.yeah, well that raps it up.

Guys you have to realize..

You've got to realize that the entire world looks the same, it's only the people who make the world look different in Fallout. Hell the planet is a big bad wasteland no matter where you are, be it China or California.

Beijing, China consequently has the exact same climate as where I live, you can expect it to relatively the same at nearly all latitudes barring geographic functions.

I wouldn't mind some seasons in Fallout.. so I have to contend with snow/rain, etc. Maybe a location where it has all four seasons.

That's not the solution.

That's not a solution, it's a pipe dream. Can you really expect BIS to produce an RPG with three separate storylines simply because people want more area covered? Do you know how long that would take and how much the quality would suffer?

Take a look at Fallout 1, the map was tiny compared to Fallout 2, however a long drawnout story took place in only that small area. What you're trying to accomplish is something like Final Fantasy games which always use the entire planet just for the heck of it. Instead of unity of place you get a bunch of luke-warm towns all over the globe with not much to discern them from one another.

I wouldn't mind a whole conflict contained in a single city so long as it is well detailed. I had hoped that San Francisco would have a little more than three blocks (mind you, small blocks) worth of land. Hell the entire tanker was larger than the whole seaport.

The more detail, the more meaning, the better the storyline and plot. Complexity is hard to spread out.

Got that right!

>No China! No Vertibird flying around
>the world! None of that
>crap! People listen to yourselves
>this is FALLOUT not Billy
>the Traveling super hero or
>adventures in china. You want
>to see stuff like that,

Got that right.

None of that Final Fantasy always-end-up-with-some-machine-that-can-fly-unimpeded-around-the-world plot. Talk about cliché, talk about lack of depth. If you want that shit, play an old SNES RPG (not to say they're bad), because they ALL have that. Hell, Vertibirds had so little range that they had to refuel at Navarro. How do you expect a flying machine in the wasteland, let alone a helicopter-based flying machine to make it to China?

RE: fo3 should be placed in china

A continuation of the storyline is the last thing I want. It would suck for things to get more civilized. Might as well just call it. Fallout: Rebuilding the Wastes.

RE: That's not the solution.

"Complexity is hard to spread out."

I like that...might have to use it someday...

RE: Got that right!

Not that I like the idea of fallout going to china, but who says that the BOS couldent make the Vertibird better after they have gotten the plans to it? Or some one could have uncoverd a jet or a plane that could fly half-way around the world with only one full up.

RE: fo3 should be placed in china

Well the world does have to rebuild it self some time, doesent it?

Did I say I wanted to put the entire freakin world in?

Now did I? I remember mentioning California. Maybe you never left it and therefore consider it to be the entire world but for me, no.

Ok, another idea. Let's take a shitload of tiles wich can be randomly put together to form a map. Then program up to 30 or so Towns and throw 12 of em on randomly selected locations on the map. You can make an awful lot of compinations like this. And ehr... What was the original topic again?

RE: fo3 should be placed in china

But I don't want to roleplay it. At some point the game will turn from post-apocalyptic wasteland to civilization rebuilt.

Skie

RE: Guys you have to realize..

Maybe a universla translator could be developed so the players could understand the NPC's. But still, would the BOS be there I mean China is along long way away. maybe they got there by using a tanker? However one thing I would like to see is a longer Fallout game. Even though FO2 is much longer than it's predecesor, IMHO it was still to short. BTW to the guy who said that the language was 'outdated' or whatever, the chinese langauge has been aound for much longer than english has, and it is also the most widely used language in the world.
