Can't Get Derek To Talk To Me About The Book In The Den

I got Becky's quest to retrieve the book from Derek, and I found him south of Mom's. He's the only citizen of the den that I could find. I know for a fact that previous to this I could enter into dialog with him and he would give clues as to where the books was. On the past several playthroughs all he will give me is floating text. Any thoughts on this?

I remember him giving a hint about where to find the book, but he'll never direct you to the right place IIRC.
Just look around on the map where you find him. It's either in the graveyard or behind some wall or whatever. But it's there alright.

IIRC there are three possible locations.

And his speech isn't affected by the location.

Well, there is a dialog associated with him, that's what I'm trying to access. I don't care about the book. I checked his msg file, so I know the dialog is there, but all I can get is his floating text. This is what I need help with.

Yes, there is indeed dialogue to go with him. Since you have been posting in the patch thread regarding my patch I thought this issue you speak of might have something to do with my patch. I took a quick look at the code and lo and behold I found the problem - a very minor bug on my part. This has been corrected and a quick fix can be downloaded here.

Just browse to your fallout 2 directory and delete the old script file and replace it with the new one.

Oh and since you are using my patch I suggest posting issues under the patch thread (this area if for unmodified gameplay only)
