Yes it looks like a return of bird flu. Apparently the bird flu will genetically mutate to a flu deadly to humans.


WASHINGTON - The Earth may be on the brink of a worldwide epidemic from a bird flu virus that may mutate to become as deadly and infectious as viruses that killed millions during three influenza pandemics of the 20th century, a federal health official said Monday.

What's more interesting is actually understaning how and why this new form of flu has arisen. Basically a bird or human was infected with both an avian and human flu virus at the same time, in the same cell. Those two viruses mized and matched their envelopes and viola! New strain that is infectious to both humans and birds which neither has any immunty to already.

None of this is new, mind you, but has been discussed in the virology community for a couple of years now. Nor does it mean therecan't be a vaccine against it, just that it'll be a new type that hasn't been thoroughy tested yet.

Butt yeah, it could kill millions, esp. YOPIs, the young, old, pregnant and infirm. So shutter up the infants, grandmas, girlfriends and HIV positive.

Ya this could be some serious s*** it you get my meaning. I mean it is only natural. The more people there are on the world the more likely a virus would become specific to the human race since its an easy target being that they live in such large groups and exist all over the world. Its bound to happen someday...when...well thats anyone's guess.

Nah, good point though. It does seem like i hear about more new virii in the news in recent years. I wouldn't be at all surprised if a major outbreak did occur. Those damn virii, they adapt too quick, little buggers.

Recall the shortage of flu vaccine this winter, in America, because one (foreign) supplier had ""Quality Assurance"" issues.

If one is ready to entertain a slippery slope scenario. A Doomsday scenario.

The private sector pharmaceutical industry whines that it can't make an accelerated rate of profit on flu vaccine. A massive differential vector of
return is the only justification for "risk" by the blessed stockholders, who the drug corporations MUST serve first.

The public sector health agencies MUST be - politically correct - and refrain from socialist price supports and federal contracts to provide a sufficient supply of vaccine protection to the individual citizen.

The individual citizen is "free" to die a virtuous death,
untainted by COMMUNIST VACCINE!

Vaccination is a flat rate business. Pretty lame considering its something we need. In the name of Capitalism though the government wont intervene. Ugh...

Everytime I think of infectious diseases I think of either Stephen King's The Stand, with Captain Trips, or the 12 Monkey Virus.

Remarkable how, with modern transportation, it is easy for a lethal virus to spread all over the world in a matter of hours.
