Change Portrait Style?

I made some screen shoots.
First is the colored picture.
Then the white and black

Interesting how the black square is visible in the last two screen shoots, although images are identical with the first one, without background. (transparent)

PS: I also have hundreds of portraits, but right now I just STRUGGLE with the F**king Sprite Creator not loading BMP's!!!
I think Photoshop CS5.1 don't save right BMP's, I just see that "too many palette colors" window!!! No matter I do...
Someone can give me some hints? Please!!!
Ah and the links from xxxRedMetalxxx site don't work anymore, at least some of them.

Thanks everybody to put that amount of energy to it! We will get to the bottom of this! I will wait a while to see if we can get rid of the green tint, and when we will actually do, I will have at least 100 portraits of miscellaneous people with normal colors waiting to be delivered to anybody that wants them for his/her mod!! Watch out!

Well, without the source code to "crack" the .exe to a form in which can be edited, I think it's not possible.
I also try compiled, decompiled and so on... but nothing. They made a good job in hidden they're work.
In gui_0.bos there is a file called: def_style.cfg, it's have some color coding inside. But, again without knowing what command lines to put in there is useless.

In any Photoshop, all you need is to change your image to 256 colors using Image / Mode / Indexed colors... / Local (selective). Then, you switch back to RGB color using again Image / Mode. Both steps are required by Sprite Creator.

If you forget the first step, you have too many colors. If you forget the last step, you will not be able to save to 32 bit .BMP as asked by the program. Do Both and that will always work.

And Important, if you have more than one image in your sprite, they must all have the same 256 colors or the popup will appear again! You then do the first step on each other image to include, but instead of using Local (selective), you use PREVIOUS palette. This way, you make sure the palette is exactly the same.

Thank you for hints, but I do that and the same thing happens. I can't even succeed loading one image.
I think is important to have the "template file" xxxRedmetalxxx posted on his site, but the link don't work and I can't downloaded, so I use another spr. file (egg. hunting rifle) and I think here lies the problem.
If I can't find Redmetal's file I'm dead.
In theory I can make one new spr file with Sprite Creator, but when I do this I don't find the option to load the new image. Egg: Import to: Layer 1 is not accessible.
Oh well...

Regards.

Sorry, I forgot to tell you one last thing. You first need to EMPTY ALL IMAGES SLOTS before adding a new one! Why? Because if you have already an image in the sprite that use another palette, the program will try to combine them together and will notice that you have too much colors. So! Take away ALL IMAGES, Put back an empty "0" image slot each time you do that, then add your own images.

Thanx!
I think I will let aside for a wile making sprites. I don't like how they look., although I have nice picture of weapons but when I scaled down they look horrible! They're to small.

Does anyone think this is possible? I mean double sized gui to be used in higher resolutions?

Totally not possible. As soon as the images are bigger, they get cropped by the game and that's about it. Either you change game resolution to a higher one with hi-resolution patch (then the images are smaller on screen but sharp) or you stay with low resolution and at least the texts are in a decent size...

Oh, I am totally amazed to see the portraits in color... If only we could do that, that will really bring the portraits closer to the objects in colors, and having both of them in colors make more sense for the interface than just the objects. You see in Fallout 3, all is made of a single color. Interface harmony he!

I did made some mods for Fallout 3 and I did change the icons in color (HeroinZero Weapon Mod). In my opinion and others the color icon do look better in FO3.

I wonder from where, those who made the resolution patch get the hex codes for bos.exe... hmmm....
I think all my expectations will be over when the source code will be free, though...

Regards.

PS: In FOT those portraits looks like "Martians"! LOL

Would be amazing! But it's not possible at the moment, almost everything related to GUI is hard coded.

Today something strange happens.
I made a new folder in which I began to put the bmp's files to make a collection for a rifle sprite (walter 2000)
Then I fire up bos editor and I saw this:

How that file appear there? And why?
Does anyone know something?
I did select that file and start the game, but no image was displayed. Perhaps because don't have a file which record the collision box?!
It's interesting to experiment with this. Maybe the game can read images directly from folder? That means not only bmp's files can put in that folder. I don't know, just saying...

Regards.
