In the Boneyard, in the building of the Blades, you can talk to a woman called Christine. One of the dialogue lines leads to this conversation:

Christine: C D E D B D Ducks
Vault Dweller: M R Not Ducks
Christine: O S M R
C D E D B D Wings
Vault Dweller: Y I B M R Ducks

What is that all about?

C D E D B D Ducks=See the itty-bitty ducks.
M R Not Ducks= Them Are Not Ducks
O S M R=Oh, yes them are
C D E etc.=you get the point
Y I B M R Ducks= Why I'll Be Them Are Ducks...

Isn't it supposed to be some obscure reference to a similar conversation in Wastelands?

I could be wrong but I always thought that was kind of an homage to Wasteland. In Quartz you can talk to one of the barmaids (after solving some riddles) named Ellen. To sum it up if you say "URABUTLN" (You are a beauty Ellen), she'll say "URAQT2" (You are a cutie too) and give you a semi-quest.

Well, that's what I thought of when I got that dialogue in Fallout at least. I wouldn't have had a clue what it was about if not for the Wasteland puzzle.

^^^ I spend too much time editing my posts.

The examples from Wasteland are far more logic. I actually tried reading the lines from Fallout that way (where letters represent words), but it just didn't make any sense to me. It still doesn't actually.

Uhm...

Cute...

Indeed, it doesn't make much sense, but what I posted still is how it's supposed to be interpreted. I can't remember what the situation of Christine was, though. I mean.....was there any reason at all as to why that was said?

And damnit, I really need to play Wasteland, if only to have played it. *grumbles*(Yes, underdogs, I know, downloading in process....)

Gents it is a satire of Southern American english accent. As each letter is to corraspond with the way it is said in the "Deep" South.

M= em, R=are, and that joke has been around since i was a kid in the 60's

And the last line was, L I B! M R Duks. Well i'll be! Them are ducks.

UJ that is possible but i have heard that exact same joke since the 60's, so if it is a wave to wasteland, wasteland creators were poking fun at the Southern Accent in the US.
